FAN FAVORITE POLL – 2013 – Folk / folk-rock / singer songwriter

In the history of Colorado music, we’ve had more than our share of tremendous folk artists, and singer-songwriters … John Denver, Dan Fogelberg, Judy Collins, Harry Tuft, Chuck Pyle and others just to name a handful… even Bob Dylan who lived in Denver for a brief time in the 60s.  This year’s list is among the most impressive in recent years …

Only those records released between November 1, 2012 and October 30, 2013 are considered “current” 2013 releases for the purpose of this poll, and the end of year charts.  Pick your three favorites of the year.  Pls share.

I will be using the following GENRE/PROGRAM FORMAT  as I do in the chart post every month.

Americana / Alt-country / Bluegrass
Blues / Rhythm & Blues
Folk / folk-rock / singer-songwriter
Indie / New Alternative
Jazz / Instrumental
Pop / Adult Contemporary / Crossover
Rock / AAA / ALT / AOR
Urban Contemporary / EDM / Hip Hop / Soul

  1. Danny Shafer’s music and mastership lifts all our souls. What an honor to vote for a musician like him. Thank-you Danny.

  2. Moors and McCumber weave their stories with incredible arrangements if so many different instruments. The cello is my favorite! From bazouki to harmonica and Irish whistle–a real delight adv always a surprise. Keep the music coming guys! Thanks

  3. Danny Shafer is a wonderful lyricist and “Wherever You Are” is his most heartfelt composition. Give it a listen. It will sweep you away to those time honored memories of old friends; far away but not forgotten.

  4. We have a lot of incredible music here in Colorado and feel honored to know a few of them! I met Michael Kirkpatrick at Song School last year at Rocky Mt Folks Festival & Song School. I heard this amazing voice singing around 1am, resonating throughout the camp ground! I had to find out who was the man behind the voice. Finally meeting & listening to his music, I instantly became a fan. Take a listen, you’ll be glad you did! Good Luck Michael!

  5. In addition to self producing his solo album Key to My Cage, Michael Kirkpatrick is a well known musician in the Northern Colorado music scene and a diamond in the rough to many who have not yet heard of him. His voice will capture your attention and charm you while his musical talent will leave you wanting more.

  6. This poll is a joke without Elephant Revival at the top. Those folks can blissfully move mountains with their musical interaction. Their new album is one of the best albums ever recorded in CO. I’ve lived in Boulder for a decade and have never heard of Kirkpatrick or Shafer. Why? Because they play in bars for a handful of people while Elephant travels the country spreading love and packing theaters. Get with it Fort Collins

    1. Ron, thank you for your considerate comment on my blog. As you will see, if you read the BEST of 2013 Year End post, Elephant Revival finished in the TOP 5 for the year, along with OneRepublic, Pretty Lights, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Otis Taylor. Further, the new ER record finished the year at #3 in statewide radio airplay, behind Gregory Alan Isakov and DeVotchKa. So, yes, they are one of the state’s best. Thank you again for your comment. I hope you continue to visit and check out what’s going in our state. Much love – goat 🙂
