The 14th Annual NedFest in Nederland, CO is only weeks away and the festival will feature the first time collaboration of longtime music friends and colleagues Keller Williams, Kyle Hollingsworth, Steve Kimock and Dave Watts. The three-day outdoor music, arts and microbrew festival features bluegrass, jazz, jam and world music, making this fusion a natural fit to close out the weekend.
Now that’s just seriously badass.

Short week kids … no new recordings in this week’s show … got one track deeper into the latest from Katie Herzig. Otherwise I was screamin’ busy. Had kids in town visiting. Had a new grand-baby (yes, I really am that old LOL). Helped Peggy at the Fort Collins DBA wrap up the lineup for the Fort Collins Jazz Experience on Saturday July 14 —> I’ll be hosting again this year and am excited to introduce Free Bear and Jababa in front of Hazel Miller.
Free Bear is Danny Meyer (Saxaphone), Stephen Thurston (Keys), Patrick McDevitt (Bass), and Alejandro Castano (Drums). Each has developed his own original music project and has contributed to notable locals as The Thurston Group, Art Lande’s Funko Moderno, THiCK CHiCK Live, 9th and Lincoln Jazz Orchestra, the Legacy Jazz Orchestra, and the Future Jazz Project.
Jababa is a 7 pc horn funk-jazz band out of Boulder .. they are currently finishing up their new album in advance of appearing on the main stage at this year’s Telluride Jazz Festival.
I’m really looking forward to seeing each of these new bands appear on the Old Town Sq stage next Saturday beginning at 5PM …
On a side note – I do sound at Oskar Blues in Longmont – and this past Friday we had the Yawpers appear again. Keep your ears open for a new record they’re working on at UI in Boulder …. and as well … there’s something “special” about this band I don’t see very often. It’s no wonder they are only one of two Colorado acts that band guru Mark Bleisner has currently taken on – Danielle Ate the Sandwich the other. Also heard that Rose Hill Drive drummer Nate Barnes is now playing with John Common and Blinding Flashes of Light … they will be appearing on Aug 11 at Bohemian Nights at New West Fest on the Mountain Ave stage.
