Jennifer Lane live at the Soiled Dove

This is one of my favorite songs of the past few years.  Michael Olson’s fretless bass work is up there with some of the best I’ve ever heard.

Here’s a video sampler from Jennifer’s last album In A Magazine, recorded live at the Soiled Dove Underground in Denver

MMMM – Monday, April 12, 2010

Normally, nowadays, I’m not much of a dj based dance rock fan, but listening to Kamtin Mohager’s (Chain Gang of 1974) latest made me recall my own dance-club-dj days of the 1970s and 80s here in NoCo.  Back in those days there were plenty of early experimentations being done with electronics/computer based music — and we club djs notoriously mashed up hit records, sometimes layering three or four at a time… fading in and out of parts… extending words and/or phrases… all the while keeping the “song” intact for those on the dancefloor – who generally walked off when anything new hit the speakers.  So, this week it’s all about the “dance” groove … and there’s three recent and/or new recordings out that should appeal to those who like the beat thumping.  Enjoy the groove.

Notes: sometimes it’s just a matter of an emotional connection…

Tommy Metz – BlossomWebsite: http://www.tommymetz.com/
Notes: there’s something about Tommy that reminds me of Jon Anderson from the band Yes — This album is available as a free download.

Pretty Lights – Making Up a Changing MindWebsite: http://www.prettylightsmusic.com/#/home
Notes: I have no idea how Derek does this … but he has undoubtedly become one of the best around at it … creating something new from bits and pieces of something old.  This album and others avaialable as a free download.
