That’s what someone emailed me earlier today. Sorry gang … been remodeling the house, working on booking bands for Bohemian Nights at New West Fest 2010… and Miss Pattie (aka Mrs Goat) got home this past Wed from a month long trip back east … 😉 … so, I’ve been a bit preoccupied with some things (cough).
I’ll post this week’s playlist tomorrow and I’ll get the MMMM posted for Monday …
Also, I got to do sound for Reckless Red last night in Longmont … WOW! If you get the chance, I highly encourage making a show. Especially if you’re a roots, blues, rock, americana music fan. KILLER band. Check them out here -> http://www.myspace.com/recklessredmusic
And the hits keep pouring in… as I expected, April and May are the months when we see a deluge of new releases, as bands gear up for the summer concert season and the lucrative merchandising opportunities that come with festivals and outdoor concerts of all types. Among the biggest releases to hit my desk this week was the new Nathaniel Rateliff – In Memory of Loss (Rounder Records)… I previewed this album in one of my Songs of the Day posts recently. Let me just say the entire album is remarkable and will easily make best of lists with music journalists and radio programmers regionally.

The Apples in Stereo – Travelers In Space and Time(Yep Roc/Simian) Genre/Style: Indie Pop Website: www.applesinstereo.com Notes: Free Download of Dance Floor is available at the band’s website. From the promo notes: “I wanted to make a futuristic pop record, to reach out to the kids of the future. It’s what I imagine more highly-evolved pop might sound like: shiny soul music with robots and humans singing together.” It is that …
Chadzilla – Lil’Roo (single) Genre/Style: Rock Website:http://chadzillamusic.com/ Notes: Free Download of Lil’Roo available at the artist’s website. Chadzilla is the touring drummer for Slim Cessna’s Auto Club and the leader of Chadzilla and the Asteroids. He is also the creator of House of Rock (a teen to adult rock ensemble) at the Swallow Hill Music Association. This is the first single off of Chadzilla’s upcoming album “View From the Backseat – Part 1.” The official release date is TBD.
Bill McKay – Bill McKay Genre/Style: jamband, r&b, funk, blue-eyed soul Website:www.myspace.com/billmckay1 Notes: Bill McKay is the keyboardist for Leftover Salmon and the Fox St. Allstars. He also toured with the Derek Trucks band for five years and was a founding member of the Denver based Double Parked, a band that also featured guitarist Adam Stern, who shows up on this album throughout – along with Chadzilla, who co-produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered with Bill.
The Hollyfelds – Lo Bueno, Lo Malo, Lo Feo Genre/Style: Americana, country Website: www.thehollyfelds.com Notes: Lo Bueno, Lo Malo, Lo Feo appears to be official name of the 7” vinyl single that the band is releasing in May. There are two songs on the radio advance cd – “Either Way” (sampled) and “How to Be Gone.” Once again the girls show off their wonderful harmonies and classic country roots.
Gadzukes! – New & Used Genre/Style: Americana, old-timey, ukulele, trad-jazz mixed with trad-country Website: www.gadzukesmusic.com/ Notes: Not too many folks will take on the challenge of covering such American songbook classics as Stompin’ at the Savoy (1934 Benny Goodman), or Jimmy Webb’s 1967 classic By the Time I Get to Phoenix on the same recording – let alone do these and other standards featuring ukuleles as the dominant instrument. Nancy Thorwardson and Patrick Cullie are those brave souls. The album actually came out last summer – but I only recently got a copy when I did sound for the band. It’s not only great to hear songs my parents introduced me to being recorded today, it’s even nicer that it was done so uniquely.
