What a week for great new music … so much in fact, I couldn’t get it all in under three minutes so some of it has to wait for next week.

(30 sec samples of this week’s featured titles)

30db – One Man Show (SCI Fidelity)
Genre/Style: Rock, alternative adult contemporary
Website: http://30db.net
Personnel: Jeff Austin – mandolin, vocals (Yonder Mountain String Band)   Brendan Bayliss – guitar, vocals (Umphrey’s McGee)   Nick Forster – electric guitar (E-Town, Hot Rize)   Eric Thorin – bass (Drew Emmitt Band, Open Road)   Cody Dickinson – drums (North Mississippi Allstars)
Notes: If the superstar lineup doesn’t compel you to turn it up … the music will.  I don’t know what I expected, but I don’t think it was what I heard .. although in a few spots, it was… hmmm.. the fellas sing fantastically together, and the songs were written following Jeff & Brendan going through divorces.

Big Jim Adam & John Stilwagen – Back In My Home Town (Fossyl Records)
Genre/Style: Blues
Website: www.adamstilwagen.com/fr_home.cfm
Notes: Winner – Colorado Blues Association Solo/Duo 2009 … earned them a trip to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in March 2010 … My early year pick for blues album of 2010.

The Lovely & Talented – The New American Fable (self)
Genre/Style: Rock, alternative adult, alt-country
Website: www.thelovelyandtaented.com
Notes: (from website) Creation of the Singer/Guitarist/Dancer JT Nolan, The Lovely and Talented exist as a dynamic package of genre bending style and sound.  Joined by singer/pianist/accordionist/dancer Kate Shoup, drummer David Petry and electric bassist Matt Skellenger, The Lovelies fuse international influences of Sambas, Boleros, and gypsy swing into American folk, blues and old time jazz.

King for A Day – Light Is On and Shining Brightly For the Masses  (self)
Genre/Style: rock, brit-rock
Website: http://www.kfadband.com
Notes: best thing yet from this band .. its a case of perseverance pays off.  In this case, the band gets bold enough to attempt the Beatle’s classic Taxman along with other so inspired brit-rock.  Engineered and mixed by both Bryan Feutchinger and band leader Simon Levene.

Tin Horn Prayer – Get Busy Dying (Suburban Home)
Genre/Style: Rock, folk-rock, punk
Website: www.myspace.com/tinhornprayer
Notes: Calling this stuff folk-rock is really just not right, it’s so heavy with a hardcore element running throughout.  Eric Eyl of the Denver Post may have stated it best:  Tin Horn Prayer’s debut album, “Get Busy Dying,” is filled with beer-soaked anger, wine-soaked misery and whiskey-soaked regret. The music staggers and struts like the guy at the end of the bar who started the night looking for love, but is now just looking for a fight.

The Colorado Sound – Vol. 2, Episode 16 2010

I was feeling in a 90s state of mind today, so some tracks from 95-98 highlighted the first hour of the show…

… congrats to KRFC for a successful spring membership/fund drive.  Looks like they reached or exceeded their goal of $40,000 and got over 50 new members in the process.  WTG 🙂
