SOME OF THE BEST OF THE COLORADO PLAYLIST 2025

CHRIS K’S FAVORITE CONVERTIBLE TOP DOWN COLORADO CRUSIN’ CAR-TUNES OF THE YEAR …here’s the picture …2010 BMW 128i convertible w/ COMUSIC on the tags …I live in GJ where the roads are open, the speeds are fast and the sun is blazin’. This is what got my foot tappin’ booty slidin’ gas pedal trompin summer rollin and rockin along… enjoy.

Analog Son FT. Adryon de LeonThis Time Around – Gotta have some funk for the summer fun-in-the-sun-runs in the convertible. Analog Son (Jordan Linit, Josh Fairman) is a member of the Denver based Color Red Records family, also home to Cali singer Adryon de Leon, who brings her soulful voice to this mile high infused dance party. Andy Frasco & The U.N. Try Not to Die – Sometimes you gotta laugh to keep from crying, and there’s been plenty of that this past year. This song makes me smile. With all the trials and travails that befall us, let’s all, please, try not to die. I also can’t help but sing it loudly when I’m alone. (Spotify, YouTube)

Gasoline LollipopsHumanity – FULL DISCLOSURE – This band and I have been friends for years and we’ve played a few shows together. That said, Kill the Architect combines the Goth-country-folk Clay Rose is well known for and adds some southern fried keyboards and horns and funky country-blues. Produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Leftover Salmon, the String Cheese Incident) the album slides into some new grooves for the band. (Spotify, YouTube)

The Grocery Story feat. Erik Lunde You Don’t Knock– Erik Lunde was a CP FAN & LISTENER FAVORITE a couple of years ago with his solo album. Here he teams up with an all-star Northern Colorado cast featuring John Magnie & Steve Amadee of Subdudes fame on an album conceived and written by and produced by John Magnie. On You Don’t Knock Erik gets his N’Orleans strut goin’… the call and response harmonies are great for singin’ along to when you’re screamin’ down the highway at… (“hey, hon, what’s the speed limit?”). (Spotify, YouTube)

Leftover SalmonLet’s Party About It – Salmonheads! How could I not include the one and only poly-ethnic-Cajun slamgrass party song of the year?! Bringing the horns AND the banjo for a rollicking high-speed run through the Colorado Rocky Mountain curves. (Spotify, YouTube)

The Lumineers Same Old Song – Damnit… They did it again and put out something that got into my head and wouldn’t let go. UGH. Yep. One of my go-tos when I start the car and hit the road. It seems to fit best on the long straightaways. I think it’s the drums. (Spotify, YouTube)

Marfa Daisy I have been a fan of Bryce Menchaca since he broke out pre-Marfa with his Texas meets Colorado inflected musical DNA. Teaming up with Kellen Wall completed the code. This song has been in my playlist for over a year now, and when it comes up in the car, with the top down, it’s sunshine and open skies. (Spotify, YouTube)

Stillhouse Junkies Down the Line – I got to go see this band in GJ this summer, and hang a bit with band founder, guitarist/mandolinist, and lead singer Fred Kosak. He told me they were getting XM airplay. I can hear why. I’m a sucker for good acoustic swing, and this lineup of the band brings it. Radio and car-tune worthy all the time. Feels great with the top down and the wind blowing through our hair. (Spotify, YouTube)

Sugar Nova feat. The Main Squeeze It’s All Gold – You know you do it! You know you boogie in your seat when you’re driving on an open road with the sun streamin’. LMAO. I’ve been a fan of Sugar Nova since they broke out post COVID. The Main Squeeze brings the juice. And I can’t help but do the boogie in my seat too. (Spotify, YouTube)

Yonder Mountain String Band Here I Go – Road burner! After twenty-seven years of making music in Colorado, YMSB came out with their most progressive and driving worthy album yet. “Here I Go” became the drop top road burner. The groove is insistent and persistent and pushes me through the turns tightly. (Spotify, YouTube)
