The Colorado Sound S9 EP43 NOV 2015

The Colorado Sound is produced every week on Wednesday.  It gets sent out to stations on Thursday to air the next week as the station chooses.  Mostly it’s heard over the weekend.  On Saturday morning I learned that Colorado folk legend, Zen Cowboy Chuck Pyle died the night before, Friday November 6.  Because the show is pre-produced, there was no way for me to mention it in this week’s episode.

For me, Chuck was a shadow … I never really got to know his music well until I collected his cds for this show — hence the inexplicably prophetic programming of his classic “Colorado” this week.  And he wasn’t that old to be honest – not as old goes today.  Or maybe he was and I just never thought about it.  He was 70 when he moved on to “Higher Ground” – one of the few reasons he gave for moving to Colorado to begin with in 1965.  RIP Chuck – may YOUR Colorado forever be in our heart.

Here are six hand picked videos … 4 of which are live performances.  To see more, check out Chuck Pyle YouTube Channel

The Colorado Sound S9|EP42 2015

Monday  Tuesday morning .. this is going to be short and sweet this week.  Family drove in yesterday Sunday from the east coast, and I’ve had other family staying with us the past two weeks.  It’s been hectic here at the goat den lately, LOL.  So …

In case you missed it during the past week:  Oskar Blues Lyons/Longmont has tapped local singer-songwriter Danny Shafer as the new talent buyer, taking over for the departing Hunt Frye – who was brought in last March. Word from friends in the scene has it that Hunt is focusing his efforts on putting together shows for the Aggie Theater in Fort Collins, which was recently merged with Cervantes in Denver.

The Colorado Sound S9|EP 41

It’s kinda hard to think about what to write when you’ve in the midst of crisis.  Curve balls, pot-holes, bumps in the road – all ways of saying the same thing really …that life can be pretty nasty sometimes, and all you can do is hold on and swallow hard.  Anyone who’s followed me online the past decade+ now knows my wife and I got bad health news again this past week.  She and I both survived very scary health issues a couple of years ago, and now we’re facing another.  We’re fighters – so we expect the same outcome now as we’ve experienced in the past – success …and nothing but will be acceptable.  We’re great at hitting curve balls and getting alignments after falling into potholes.

11150279_794516310645334_8277106257218096525_nDid something new this week on the show.  I’ve been searching and asking for good clean radio friendly comedy for several years now … and I finally got some!  Tobias Livingston from Greeley ponied up and sent a live bit he recorded last summer.  SWEET!  Can’t wait for more.

News broke mid-week with pictures on FB that the Psychodelic Zombiez are back in the studio picking up where they left off 23 years ago. Babaganouj anyone?

HOT HOT RUMOR — from inside source … posting on FB with picture — The Railbenders are back in the studio for the first time in MANY years.  More news to follow.  Just something here to wet our appetite a bit ..
