The Colorado Playlist S10 EP06

It was a great week for new releases from MILES WIDE, HELLO DOLLFACE, WONDERLIC, SHEL, ADRIENNEO, SAM LEE, and ELEPHANT REVIVAL …. there’s a great version of Enter Sandman, the Metallica classic, on the new SHEL album that I’ll share in next week’s show.

Sometimes I get lost.  If you’ve followed me, you know I’m still in the deepest grief stages of losing my wife to cancer on Feb 2.  Friends and professionals both have told me to be easy on myself … to not worry about getting lost right now.  For that, I’m grateful.  Here’s this week’s playlist and new music shares.

Don’t forget … KUNC is no longer airing the show — it has been moved to 105.5 The Colorado Sound.  It airs at 10AM Sunday morning (hour 2 of show) and it airs at 10PM Sunday nights (both hours of show).

VIDEO PICK of the WEEK

Russ Hopkins is an old friend who is about to release a “career” record .. the best of what he’s produced in his career as artist, engineer and producer. This is one of those songs.

Colorado Playlist – S10 EP05 FEB 29 2016

Welcome to the first official Colorado Playlist post … I deeply appreciate the past month off from my regular postings. I’m very excited about all the great things taking place this month.

And now I can break the news.  I sold the name “The Colorado Sound” to a new radio station launched by my friends at KUNC — I’m looking forward to hosting Saturday nights Sat 6PM-12AM on Northern Colorado’s newest radio station, 105.5FM The Colorado Sound, beginning this Sat March 5.  My voice will also be on Sunday nights hosting e-town, American Routes, and 9:00 Blues.

Colorado Playlist will air on Sunday mornings from 10AM-11AM (hour 2) and from 10PM-12AM on Sunday nights (both hour 1 + 2)

In hour 2 of this week’s episode I paid tribute to my friends at the Westword who published TEN GREAT FEMALE-FRONTED BANDS IN DENVER YOU NEED TO KNOW — 2016 EDITION.

Westword’s list included:
10. Chella and the Charm
09. Church Fire
08. Death in Space
07. Dessy Bessy
06. The Milk Blossoms
05. Plume Varia
04. The Raven & The Writing Desk
03. Sleepers
02. Snake Rattle Rattle Snake
01. Wheelchair Sportscamp

Now, if you’ve never heard of any of these, that’s okay — there were a few in there I had to look up myself.  Read the Westword article – it comes with YouTube videos.   I agree with Westword that these TEN are worth checking out … however …

While I have NOTHING against any one of their picks I thought it would be fun to do 12 GREAT FEMALE VOICES IN COLORADO YOU NEED TO BE LISTENING FOR IN 2016 …if your tastes do not run to the underground side of life you might want to look elsewhere for your musical inspiration this year.  I hope you’ll find inspiration in my picks below.

Season 10 | EP04 FEB 1 2016

Here over the next couple of weeks, you’ll notice some changes to The Colorado Sound.

As of today, The Colorado Sound Live365 no longer exists.  Apparently one of the dominant reasons may have been due to an increase in royalty rates established late in 2015 by the Copyright Royalty Board, which sets streaming rates for Internet broadcasters.

According to a report in Forbes over the weekend, “Late in 2015, the Copyright Royalty Board handed down its decision about what internet radio services will need to pay per stream, and it apparently hurt Live365 so much that it can no longer afford for the rights to play music.”

Other changes include a new name, a new URL, and new imaging and branding along with news about upcoming 10th Anniversary events.  …. AND .. I received an email from a brand new LPFM (low power FM) station going live in Denver this summer that they’d like to talk to me about airing the show.  #fingerscrossed

As much as I’m the voice and face of this show, it is my wife Pattie who is the real driving force – the quiet heart of the show, and the band.  As I write this morning, my wife lies in the bedroom, only days away from transitioning.

I know in advance I’m forgiven if I don’t publish this week … and I’ll be forgiven for the personal appearances I may not be able to make in the near future.   Depending on how things develop over the next couple of days, I may not be producing a show this week or next.

That all said, I hope you’ll join me for a couple of incredible events planned for the next week or so.  My attendance or not, withstanding.
