FAN FAVORITE POLL – 2013 – Pop / Adult Contemporary / Crossover

Pop and Rock are two of the most difficult categories to deal with, because one could easily be the other at any given time it seems.  I use established radio formats to determine more where something will fit … so ..

Crossover is “a term applied to musical works or performers appearing on two or more of the record charts which track differing musical tastes, or genres.” (wikipedia).  So, typically in the modern sense, acts that crossover from Country to Adult Contemporary, or artists that fly between AAA and Adult Contemporary.  Examples of crossover acts in Colorado would include Coles Whalen (crossover from country to adult contemporary) and Rob Drabkin (crossover from AAA to adult contemporary).   Adult contemporary (wikipedia) is “heavy on romantic ballads which mostly use acoustic instruments such as acoustic guitars, pianos, saxophones, and sometimes an orchestral set.”  These are acts that may have rock, country, soul, r&b, or other major influences, but don’t fall squarely into those other descriptive formats.
