KWMV OUT — KLZR IN

Wet Mountain Broadcasting has acquired a new non-profit NCE license to broadcast to the Wet Mountain Valley and surrounding areas under the call sign KLZR at a new frequency of 91.7 FM.  KWMV – the LPFM station owned by Crystal Mountain Center for the Performing Arts in Westcliffe is no longer broadcasting and will be permanently shut down shortly.

For the foreseeable future, KLZR will be broadcasting from on the same in-town tower as they have been and will phase in wattage over time to a maximum of 5,000 watts. Because mountainous terrain severely limited broadcast reach, the NCE license was sought in order to reach those community members whose signal has been blocked by the terrain.

A fundraising campaign is planned in order to acquire a new antenna and broadcast equipment and to eventually place the antenna in a much higher position on a hill just outside of town which should improve coverage significantly.
