Right up front .. NOW is the time to get tickets to help me celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Colorado Playlist (formerly The Colorado Sound) happening Aug 7 at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre. My friend Dani Grant (owner / GM) and I had fun picking the two acts to invite to this party; Liz Barnez Band and the Railbenders, each of whom have specific and special meaning to me.
I met Liz not long after she moved here from Louisiana in the late 80s, when I was at KSQI (96.1 K-SKY) and at 90.5FM KCSU. She and I have remained very good friends, and have long wanted to do a show together. With her is one of my all time favorite guitarists and another long time friend – Dave Beegle, who I first saw playing in the 80s in the band Sceptre, and then in the 90s in the band Fourth Estate. Dave also plays in the classic rock band the Jurassicasters.
I met the core of the current lineup of the Railbenders, including original founding members, Jim Dalton and Tyson Murray, in 2000; when I got actively involved in booking shows regionally. They have remained one of, if not the most popular country band to have ever come out of the Denver scene. It’s really hard to get this band, due to Jim’s commitment as the lead guitarist in Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers.
I’m deeply honored to be sharing the stage with such great friends, at a venue celebrating it’s 100th year. WOW! The day is also the exact day to the year that I debuted the new band at the Mish – sounds like a tradition now Dani 😉
T-shirts have been ordered. I only ordered 48 t-shirts to commemorate the event. You’ll have to be at the party to purchase one.
The 10th Anniversary of the Colorado Playlist is coming up August 7th at the historic Mishawaka Amphitheater – All Ages. Tickets $15 / $17.50 DoS SUPER EXCITED! We’re planning on recording the event for a future episode of The Colorado Playlist. DON’T FORGET => The “Mish” is a shuttle venue. Parking is extremely limited and is $40 a car. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you buy tickets and parking/shuttle passes online.
AFTER SIX YEARS, SPOKESBUZZ SAYS GOODBYE
To temper my enthusiasm was the reveal this past week that SpokesBuzz is shuttering. 😦 Huge sad face here gang, not only as a fan of the organization over the past six years, and the belief I have in founder Dani Grant’s vision, but also as a board member the past year.
The organization will cease operations at the end of August, and will immediately begin a transition plan designed to close out its activities.
Since its inception in 2010, SpokesBuzz has been a champion for bands and a connection for fans, providing hundreds of musicians with industry contacts, career guidance, and educational and promotional opportunities, and helping bring global recognition to the Colorado music scene.
Lack of sufficient funding is the main reason for the shut down. “We simply don’t have the financial support required to sustain the organization into the future,” according to executive director Dani Grant. “…as much as it pains us to shut the doors, we have a responsibility to the musicians and our music community to not only see the writing on the wall, but to act on it in a way that allows us to complete our chapter in the story with love and integrity.”
The board and staff will work with the 11 bands currently in the SpokesBUZZ incubator to support them as the organization closes, and events scheduled through 8/31 (except the annual pool party fundraiser) will go on as planned.
VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK
This week’s pick is also one of the songs in this week’s MMMM. A bit of humor from Andy Palmer who’s been busy on another new project, a compilation of Colorado musicians and their songs about some of the racial tensions we’ve been witnessing lately. Some artists are: SF1, Wheelchair Sports Camp, John Common, Lucifury (Theo Wilson), Mama Magnolia, Toad in the Hole, and more. There’s an indiegogo campaign called ‘We Are Brown’ that’s only going to be up about another week … all proceeds are going to Denver Justice Project.
MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEETING
What you’ll find below are new songs on the show this week … listen to them again (or for the first time) and let me know which ones you think I should keep in the Colorado Playlist.
I conceived of this idea as a way for you to discover some of the new music I played on the show, and to give you the chance to let me know which of the tracks you like, and think I should keep in rotation. I get a lot of feedback from fans about what’s liked .. and what isn’t.
In order to be included in the MMMM poll, the band/artist must have an embeddable file available on SoundCloud, BandCamp (my favorite), Reverbnation or YouTube.
You can vote for as many titles as you like .. the idea is not to see a winner, but to find out which of the new material I’ve debuted (D) or (N) you like enough for me to keep around.
