The Colorado Sound S7 EP39 OCT 2013

chris at ob hmls sunday june 16 2013Monday / Oct 28, 2013: Good morning. Not a lot of time this morning, and obviously not yesterday either considering this didn’t get done and posted til now. Full day of music yesterday in support of CAN’D AID FOUNDATION at Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids in Longmont. Felonius Smith, Grant Farm bluegrass, and Rocktin’ Grove killed it noon to five …and then we had our Sunday evening show upstairs in the loft with David Williams gypsy jazz featuring David and Enion Tiller. All in all a really magnificent day of music.

So, what do Glenn Frey, Joe Cocker, Joe Walsh, and Rick Derringer have to do with Colorado music history? Three are current or past residents in the state – and two were produced by a famous rock producer who had a label in Denver (Tumbleweed) in the 60s, who recorded the first two records to come out of Caribou Ranch, and who subsequently went on to become the Eagles producer in the mid-70s.

Video Pick of the Week:  Danny Shafer and his family are among those who lost their home and possessions in Lyons this year.  There have been numerous benefits in support of Danny, the Tillers, and the many others who have lost because of the floods.  This video is from one of those benefits… grab the Kleenex kids.

BN NWF 2012 GOAT ON STAGEOne thing I find difficult is sharing information before it’s time.  I did that in this week’s show … when I suggested that it would likely be the first of the year before essential infrastructure would allow Lyons to reopen to the public.  Turns out it’s more likely we’re heading for a mid-November reopening.  Not to say there isn’t a lot of work to do, but from what I heard yesterday from friends at the 4th anniversary of Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids in Longmont mid-November is a reasonable target.

Video of the Week — I tried like hell to get the new Fray single “Love Don’t Die” in time for this week’s show … nope … couldn’t do it … but damned sure will have it by episode 39.  In the meantime – enjoy this audio only video of the week.  This could be their biggest hit yet.

The Colorado Sound S7 EP37 OCT 2013

Goat_Logo_color_on_whiteThis week’s playlist features a couple of acts made up of some folks I’ve had the pleasure of following musically for the past fifteen years.  Equally Challenged features guys who were in established Fort Collins bands like Fatty Jenkins, Brakeman Junction, and Zonky Tonk Zydeco.  Toad In the Hole is essentially Kristi VanDeWalker, Geoff Morris, and Mark Serratoni from the band Zeut, all of whom I’ve known now since the late 90s.  Also featured this week, the new Nathaniel Rateliff (and what is more or less The Wheel) release…

Video Pick of the Week:  I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention to what’s really popular out of Colorado – and no doubt with over 131-thousand views in just a few days, the new video from former Colorado Springs (Air Force Academy) and Greeley (UNC) resident Tyler Ward qualifies as impressively popular.  Equally, his EP  Hello. Love. Heartbreak. (September 2012) went to #1 across 15 worldwide iTunes singer/songwriter charts.
