Colorado Playlist – S11 EP07

15823350_10157928607200133_4133524469462401895_n-1Monday morning.  A recap.  Last week’s MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) was among the most voted in I’ve seen this year so far.  Ginny Mules won big, including not only shear number of votes, but also in its 100% KEEP IT rating, when applied to the total number of votes received.  When fans rally, it’s an indication of fan favor = popularity = something we all strive for.  Popularity, I’ve learned is organic; it happens, or it doesn’t.

Despite the overall popularity of Flobots over the past decade, their new single “Pray” is off to a shaky start, barely managing to break a 50/50 KEEP IT or DELETE IT tie.  Their new album is due out this spring, but I should have more to share in advance in March.

Coming NEXT WEEK / EP08 … the DEBUT of the new Rose Hill Drive album Mania.  After years of speculation that the band had disbanded for good, the trio of two brothers and their best friend that began as children, reemerges not far removed from where they left off, with a guitar fueled, Led Zepplin influenced, hard rock groove sure to put them back at the top of the deck as one of the region’s most popular rock bands – exactly where they left off seven years ago now.    Expect sold out shows and plenty of outdoor festival appearances in 2017.

Also new NEXT WEEK / EP08 = Tiffany Christopher, Shady Elders, Otis Taylor, Deep Pocket Thieves and Bonfire Dub.

Colorado Playlist – S11 EP06

15823350_10157928607200133_4133524469462401895_n-1Well, Colorado pretty much got shut out of the 59th Annual Grammy Awards last night. There was no Pretty Lights, no Lumineers, no Gerald Alright …all prior Grammy nominated acts …and no Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats.  I’m particularly surprised that the Lumineers did not get enough votes to earn a nomination for their album Cleopatra, that went #1 in both the US and Canada last year.

All that said, Denver’s Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) earned another Grammy for his part as a producer on the multiple Grammy winning  “25” by Adele.  Native Denverite Bill Frisell did earn a nomination for Best Instrumental album for Wish Upon A Star, and former Denver resident Rene Marie was nominated in the Best Vocal Jazz Category for her album Sound of Red.  Of course, my pick for album of the year for 2016 went to the Lumineers, for Cleopatra.

Last week’s MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) was interesting.  Seems like we’ve locked in a pretty steady core group of readers who let me know what they like each week … Patrick Dethlef’s “I Was Your Age,” received a resounding “DELETE IT” vote, along with Spiral Cell‘s “Taste.”  Last week’s winners included the emotional “Sweat” from Michael Hornbuckle and what’s turned out to be a very well received release from the Steve Law Band, who have had two KEEP IT tracks voted on over the past two weeks.

This week’s MMMM includes shares from Dearling, Flobots, and Ginny Mules.  The new Flobots album is due out in May.

Colorado Playlist – S11 EP05

If you’re thinking, “man, Chris is late getting this up today,” you’re right — overslept by 2 hours.  I blame the second beer yesterday.  Yes, I’m a football freak.  I watch just about any game on tv.  But what the Patriots did yesterday was BEYOND amazing.

In this week’s MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) I put a repeat up from late in 2016, that we did not get a chance to vote on … so this week’s new music picks include tracks from Michael Hornbuckle, Patrick Dethlefs, Spiral Cell and the Steve Law Band, who we broke open a new track from this week following the success that he had in last week’s poll.  New cuts from Stella Luce and Russ Hopkins are not included in this week’s MMMM due to lack of an embeddable file.

In last week’s MMMM, the Steve Law Band and Shaley Scott pulled the greatest number of votes, with each winning out with those who voted … and in a surprise, Tennis is the first act to score a 100% DELETE.

New releases hitting my desk this week from Selina Albright (soul / r&b), Gasoline Lollipops (rock, alt-country), and Erik Applegate (jazz).
