All in all this was a pretty quiet week. Mrs Goat and I are looking forward to Thanksgiving, so I’m not too sure about a new show for this coming weekend. Much more likely it will be an encore show this week.
Update on wife: no news to report. She has another test this Wednesday. We’ll know more next week. In the meantime, the stress got to me 😦 LOL. Stomach mechanic (doctor) on call. March on! Let’s not stop this train …
Our band, Goatz! (acoustic) will be appearing on Dec 17 @ Oskar Blues/Lyons. 7-9PM, All ages, No cover. Hope you’ll keep that in mind.

I do not normally use this blog to write about my personal life. I have always felt that this place is about you – the listener – and the musicians whose passions populate my show weekly. It’s not supposed to be about me or my family. However, a few friends have convinced me to break my long standing “rule” and write about what’s going on in the life of Mr & Mrs Goat aka Chris K and Miss Pattie aka Chris and Pattie Kresge.
About a month ago, my wife lost the use of her left hand. She’s left handed, and has spinal issues from an earlier accident, so we were obviously deeply troubled. I took her to the ER, where after two CT scans we were informed she has brain cancer. The guy walked in, sat down, and calmly said, “you have brain cancer Mrs Kresge.” Speechless is not the right word to express my feelings at that moment.
Mrs Goat was taken to a room, and radiation and steroid treatment began immediately upon verification of diagnosis. Further examination also found a “mass” on her lungs (still to be scanned and biopsied as of this writing). A further complication – Miss Pattie was also diagnosed with stage 2B skin melanoma 2 1/2 years ago. It was successfully removed, surgically, and she was deemed cured after the appropriate time for such things.
Pattie also started a high potency CBD and RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) regimen. I recommend reading The Difference Between CBD and Rick Simpson Oil. I had never heard of it until a friend, also dealing with cancer, turned me on to it. The RSO is 85% pure THC, and apparently is supposed to contain cancer shrinking properties. This is pretty interesting territory.
It is my wife who is to be celebrated for this show being on the air, for the times I’m on stage, and in general for me being Goat – she created the name “the picky grumpy old goat” 15 years ago and it stuck with the kids, and then became me, the character behind the mic on The Colorado Sound, and behind mixing consoles, and mc’ing shows, and doing all the things you’ve seen us do the past 15 years – together.
Miss Pattie / Mrs Goat / #pattiewillfixthis
My wife is the most amazing part of who I am. I know that sounds like mushy old man stuff and corny as hell maybe – but I gotta say it.
Our scene has suffered some tremendous heartache this year. Too many of us have cancer, or other deadly diseases like HEP-C (Hepatitis C). The doctor told us, “if I had walked in and said that to you five years ago, it would have been a near certain death sentence.” Today, there are many promising new treatments.
The radiation stuff Pattie went through was Star Trek / Star Wars level amazing. I took a drug called Sovaldi that cured my HEP C. Five years ago HEP C was also a near death level illness, and as it turned out I am “allergic” to the drug they used to treat the disease five years ago, so for me – almost certainly death. Scared the livin’ crap outta me though, I gotta say. The messed up part of it is all this shit scares me…
It is true that early detection is critical. Get your colonoscopy and whatever other cancer finding tests you can – early, often and always. Just do it. There are cures, but you have to catch this stuff early …the earlier the better.
We’re hoping we got Miss Pattie’s early. So far – things look pretty damn good.
Sooooo #heartinthroat … our friend Megan Flotten set up a GoFundMe page. The immediate outpouring of love and support took my breath away. I cannot thank you all enough for your love.

(Monday Morning Music Meeting) When I worked in radio full time as a music director, it was customary to meet with the program director on Monday to discuss what new music I wanted to add to the playlist. Why mess with tradition… here’s this week’s adds.
Mixes well with Colorado bands: Widow’s Bane, Everything Absent or Distorted (A Love Story), Chimney Choir, Ian Cooke, a Tom Collins, DeVotchka
i am Love founder Joshua Christopher (writer, vocals, guitar) and drummer Kris Jackson moved to Denver from Philadelphia in Jan 2015. They formed Third Wave Records along the way, after four years touring with i am Love and working in various other music endeavors, including as festival producers/promoters (Brandywine Folk Festival).
They call themselves Psychedelic Vaudevillian Goth Grunge … They do have a bit of a vaudevillian vibe going. They also call themselves weirdo, experimental and acid folk among other descriptive terms. Band leader Joshua Christopher started i am Love after driving into a tractor trailer and spending twelve months convalescing, during which time he listened to no music at all. “i am Love” is their debut full length.

Eryn Desomer– The Perfect Peacetime Weapon (2015 – Eryn Desomer)

The Colorado Sound is produced every week on Wednesday. It gets sent out to stations on Thursday to air the next week as the station chooses. Mostly it’s heard over the weekend. On Saturday morning I learned that Colorado folk legend, Zen Cowboy Chuck Pyle died the night before, Friday November 6. Because the show is pre-produced, there was no way for me to mention it in this week’s episode.
For me, Chuck was a shadow … I never really got to know his music well until I collected his cds for this show — hence the inexplicably prophetic programming of his classic “Colorado” this week. And he wasn’t that old to be honest – not as old goes today. Or maybe he was and I just never thought about it. He was 70 when he moved on to “Higher Ground” – one of the few reasons he gave for moving to Colorado to begin with in 1965. RIP Chuck – may YOUR Colorado forever be in our heart.
Here are six hand picked videos … 4 of which are live performances. To see more, check out Chuck Pyle YouTube Channel
