COLORADO PLAYLIST S10 EP35

It’s Monday.  I’m supposed to write about …… …. …. new music this week below in the MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) with more new music coming in this week for next weekend’s show … with the VIDEO PICK of the WEEK going to Wheelchair Sports Camp for what could be the video pick of 2016 …

A thought … I’ve noticed that I can identify my core fanbase here at the Colorado Playlist blogsite and on Twitter and Facebook.  I cannot as easily identify my listener base, outside of ratings in any given city or town, and some of them do not get ratings information.

I’ve noticed that while my listenership is strong, the number of folks who participate on this site, and are engaged in keeping up on Colorado music is pretty low … If my fans don’t engage, how do we do a better job of getting the music out there?

I recently read a compelling article by a long time radio program director who essentially posited that music discovery takes a nose-dive after age 25. After age 25, listeners tend to become more passive in their music demands and that by the time listeners reach their mid-30s, their ability to absorb new music has decreased significantly. They need approximately 60% of the songs in their music mix to be familiar.

That doesn’t spell well when it comes to trying to share new music with adults over age 30 …. what do you think?  Comments accepted below or on FB or Twitter.

News broke over the weekend that Conor O’Neills in Boulder is closing at the end of this week after 17 years.  According to reports being published on social media and elsewhere, the reason is loss of sales due to construction next door to the restaurant/music venue, and a too slow pace of recovery once the construction was finished.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Wheelchair Sports Camp delivers what can only be among the top picks for Colorado Video of the Year, and may be considered among the top picks for Colorado Album of the Year.  From the YouTube channel = “Mary Had A Little Band” is the first video from NO BIG DEAL, the 1st official studio album from Denver’s WHEELCHAIR SPORTS CAMP, produced by the late, great IKEY OWENS (Jack White, The Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents). “No Big Deal” drops September 30, 2016!

MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEETING

I conceived of this idea as a way for you to discover some of the new music I played on the show, and to give you the chance to let me know which of the tracks you like, and think I should keep in rotation.  I get a lot of feedback from fans about what’s liked .. and what isn’t.

In order to be included in the MMMM poll, the band/artist must have an embeddable file available on SoundCloud, BandCamp (my favorite), Reverbnation or YouTube.

It’s not a competition.  It’s just a gauge of how well you like the songs I added this week.  You can select as many as you think I should keep in the “playlist.”

Colorado Playlist S10 EP34 SPT 2016

Well, it’s pretty much officially fall (SPT 21) and the summer outdoor live music season is over.  Fortober Fest in Fort Collins is among the last of the multi-band shows I know of regionally, and that happened on the 17th.  So long summer – it’s time for bands (including mine) to move indoors into regional music studios — among those who I know have secured studio time includes the Railsplitters, who recently returned from a tour in Germany…. along with the Yawpers and Pandas & People, who are both out of state working on pre-production right now.  More on Pandas & People in this week’s The Trusted Ear Scene Report with Dave Herrera. Music bed courtesy of Jux County from their new album Coral.

Sad news broke over the weekend.  Jerry Corbetta, the keyboard player/ singer and founding member for Colorado Music Hall of Fame inductees, Sugarloaf, (Green Eyed Lady) passed away on Friday.  He had been admitted to hospice earlier in the week, but there has been no news yet on the exact cause of death.  Jerry had been confined to full time care since being diagnosed with Pick’s disease, a form of dementia, several years ago.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Certainly, one of the top album picks of 2016 is SHEL’s “Just Crazy Enough.”  They add to the allure with a stunning Samuel Stewart remix of the album’s top single “You Could Be My Baby”

Colorado Playlist S10 EP30 Aug 2016

And, I’m back!  Needed a week to recoup from two weeks of events, shows, and festivals.  Thanks to everyone who came up to me and said hi.

BIG NEWS this week!  Dave Herrera, former music editor of Denver’s Westword, is back … he moved to Vegas for a bit, but recently returned and launched a new blogsite = The Trusted Ear.  Dave and I spent some time on the phone last week talking about his return to the Denver music scene, and we thought it would be cool if he contributed to the show – so beginning with EP31 (this week), I’ll be running a weekly on-air segment of local news and notes featuring Dave.

New music this week in the Monday Morning Music Meeting (MMMM) = a new spinoff from Five Iron Frenzy called The Fast Feeling that features Five Iron Frenzy sax player Leanor Ortega Till on vocals supported by Scott Kerr (guitars, bass, keys) + Andy Verdecchio (drums) + Matt Langston (keys, guitars).

Also new this week — The Epilogues “Day Trip” from their FINAL release OK OK.  The band is calling it after a decade, as Chris Heckman moves to Spain to pursue a graduate degree in music.

Jake Edwards rounds out the new releases with “Woman Like That,” a song that based on his Reverbnation page is more about him shifting gears and becoming more engaged with the whole recording process.  Which songs do you think I should keep in the “playlist?”

20160822_101457I have T-SHIRTS — LIMITED EDITION (only 35) 10th Anniversary “Colorado Playlist” … $15 includes shipping.  Order by emailing me at chriskmusic@gmail.com .. I accept PAYPAL only.  Please state size and mailing address when ordering.

MISHAWAKA AMPHITHEATRE TO HOST 100-YEAR HARVEST DINNER AT GRANT FARMS CSA

BELLVUE, Colo., August 8, 2016 — A celebratory summer season commemorating the 100-year anniversary of Mishawaka Amphitheatre will wrap up on Sunday, September 4, with a farm-to-fork seated dinner at Grant Farms CSA in Wellington. Ticket sales for the event will benefit 501(c)3 nonprofit The Kitchen Community, to help fund their plans to design and install a Learning Garden at Lesher Middle School in Fort Collins.

“The Mish has always been a place to find food, fun and community in abundance,” said Dani Grant, Mishawaka Amphitheatre general manager, noting that the original owners seeded an apple orchard on the property. “Autumn is such a wonderful time to gather and bask in the bounty of the season, and we are looking forward to sharing a table with friends and family in and around Fort Collins at our 100-Year Harvest Dinner.”

Grant said that the intent of the evening is to connect the community to the enjoyment of locally grown food, and to raise funds to help further this connection via ongoing experiential education for local schoolchildren.

“By working with The Kitchen Community to eventually help bring a Learning Garden to Lesher, we’re making sure our event seeds a powerful connection for kids to real food, grown right here in Colorado,” Grant said.

“The Mishawaka 100-Year Harvest Dinner showcases what The Kitchen Community is all about: building community through food,” said Kristin Kirkpatrick, regional director for The Kitchen Community in Colorado. “We feel so honored to be the beneficiary of this true community collaboration. The proceeds from this dinner will help support new Learning Gardens in PSD, help more kids connect to real food, and create outdoor classroom environments in schools to give kids and teachers opportunities for experiential learning.”

The 100-Year Harvest Dinner will feature a 5-course seated meal including light appetizers, prepared by Chef Brent Jackson from The Kitchen Fort Collins, using an abundance of local ingredients. Guests will dine onsite at Grant Farms CSA, with live music and dancing to follow courtesy of Fort Collins band Last Call Romance. Local libations will be available courtesy of Horse & Dragon Brewing Company and Wunder Juice.

The dinner will take place on Sunday, September 4, from 5 – 9 p.m. at Grant Farms, 12155 N. County Rd. 15, Wellington, CO 80549. Tickets are available for $85 per person online via event organizers Fortified Collaborations at:http://www.fortifiedcollaborations.com/tickets/100-year-harvest-dinner

 VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

I am not known as a metal fan.  I don’t listen to metal, preferring less severe styles of music … and I don’t play any on the show, but here in the blog I can at least share this with you.  Allegaeon has been on the scene for many years, and have continued to impress media, critics, and fans worldwide.  I’m pretty impressed too.  New album due out September 23.
