COLORADO’S TOP 40 – RIGHT NOW

Friday May 15, 2020 – WOW.  I can’t recall the last time I pulled a statewide radio airplay chart of Colorado titles, played at Colorado non-comm stations.  I know it’s been at least five or six years – and maybe longer.

Normally, I track Roots Music Report.  Only a couple of Colorado stations report to RMR, along with several US, European and Internet stations.  RMR also doesn’t filter for current year releases.  A look at their weekly spins chart shows titles that are a few years old. So, when we look at their spins, we’re getting a more global look at what CO releases are getting played.

There are over 20 non-commercial public/community & college radio stations in our state.  Twelve of those stations use playlist generator Spinitron.  They include KAFM (Grand Junction), KBUT (Crested Butte), KCSU (Fort Collins), KDNK (Carbondale), KDUR (Durango), KFFR (Winter Park), KMSA (Grand Junction), KOTO (Telluride), KRFC (Fort Collins), KRZA (Alamosa-Taos), KSJD (Mancos) and KVNF (Paonia).

    • Airplay charted April 13-May 14 2020.
    • All releases May 2019-April 2020.

CP S14 EP16 2020

Monday April 27, 2020 – Some of you will will be telling your yet to be born children and grandchildren about how a virus shut down live in person public music shows and events in most parts of the world in the year 2020. The most recent major events to postpone until 2021 = Greeley Blues Jam and Greeley Stampede.

In the absence of the mass gatherings at festivals and concerts, and as a result of inadequate technology, 2020 will be most remembered for personal Facebook Live “festivals” and concerts with multi-act lineups; each act streaming from their respective “stay-at-home” space.

NoCO Live from Home Show is based out of Fort Collins, mostly. Former Edison band leader Sarah Slaton is the gale force energy behind this weekly event, now heading into episode 7.   Sponsored by Scene Magazine, School of Rock (Fort Collins) and O’Dells Brewing, the show has so far featured Cary Morin, Liz Barnez, Clay Rose (Gasoline Lollipops), and Brian Johanson (Sugar Britches) to name just a few.  Lineups are announced on Tuesdays.  Shows are Saturdays 12pm-8pm.

TOP OF THE CHARTS:  Reverend Freakchild‘s new album The Bodhisattva Blues slipped into the #1 slot replacing what I was sure would be the sole #1 album of 2020,  And It’s Still Alright by Nathaniel RateliffMark Oblinger‘s High Water Line runs up the chart from 46-12.  Gabrielle Louise debuts at 17 with her latest, The Unending Alteration of the Human Heart.

The Colorado Playlist is fully dependent on financial support from its sponsors as well as donations from listeners.   A huge thank you to Denver DrumZ.  Located on Colfax Ave, owner JB Running Bear Maroncelli is currently offering live streaming lessons for students of all ages and experience level.

If you’re a small local business, I am currently offering special COVID-19 rates during the duration of this crisis.  Email me at coloradoplaylist@gmail.com

CP S14 EP02 2020

In last week’s post, I changed the way we do the MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting).  I changed from KEEP / DELETE to you rating each entry 1-5, with 5 being “best.”

My hope is that you listen to each entry and if you’re in a band and you’re directing your fans here, they too will listen to and rate the new music.  What tends to happen is fans “vote” for their band, but don’t bother to check out the other entries. Hmmmm. Here’s hoping for better outcomes.

The lineup for the Greeley Blues Jam, the weekend of June 12-13, was announced this past Friday night.  Along with the national acts, Colorado bands include Kerry Pastine & the Crime Scene, the Movers & Shakers, Erica Brown & the Cast Iron Queens, and the Grace Kuch Band.

Two new acts …sorta … showcased at the party Friday night.  The Sean Hagemeister Trio featuring Johnny Burroughs on guitar (slide and lead), bass and vocals and Mary Claxton on drums. Also appearing, the debut of Nick of Time, a Bonnie Raitt tribute.

In more personal news, my bandmates in GOATZ! got together for my birthday party Saturday night.  Expect us on stage soon.  Hopefully by March.
