The Colorado Sound S8 EP23 June 2014

chris k july 2010I realize it isn’t about Colorado music, but as I get my day going today (Sunday) while the show airs on Radio 94.9 Colorado, I’m learning that one of my radio idols has passed away.  RIP Casey Kasem.  82 is a long life lived.  Thank you for your inspiration.  I miss you.  Long live American Top 40.  Salute.  “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”

My first video editing learning curve mistake bit me, as I worked to edit down the Young Ancients video shots I tYAook Thursday night.  #bigfail.  I lost everything, including the source video. Too bad too, as I told John Magnie that in all the years I’ve known him, Steve, and Cary this was the best night of music I’d ever heard from them.  And I mean it.  If you have not experienced Young Ancients, you really deserve the treat.  Absolutely remarkable.

KUNC LOGOCOMING IN JULY:  The Colorado Sound Expands Statewide.  KUNC, the nation’s TOP 20 ranked public radio station, has picked up hour 2 of The Colorado Sound, bringing the show into Denver, Boulder, and many other cities and towns in CO.

We’ve been working on this opportunity for a long time now, and I would like to personally thank program director Kirk Mowers, music director Benji McPhail and my pal Robert Leja for their never ending support of the show, and my efforts to bring Colorado’s best music to a statewide audience.

Here’s a look at the newly expanded coverage coming in July.

Day and time details will be announced the week of July 7.  Stay tuned.

News, Notes and Spins – June 1, 2014

BN NWF 2012 GOAT ON STAGEWe can now call it official.  It is outdoor music season.  I could not be a happier goat.  That is my most favorite place to be, besides sharing Colorado music with you over the airwaves.

May was a very interesting month.  A good chunk of the month was spent dealing with personal health issues (I’m fine …can’t kill goats or Keith Richards apparently …hmmm).  I also got the final inspiration to create a new podcast debuting on July 12.

“Offstage …Beyond the Music with Chris K” will feature casual sit down living room / coffee table chats with some of Colorado’s most legendary music personalities, music industry leaders and other colorful Colorado music luminaries.  That debut will coincide with another BIG announcement coming sometime between now and July 1.  Keep your eyes open for that one.  We’re making history in July you guys.  You’ll want to be here for that.

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Congratulations to Eef & the Blues Express and Cary Morin for winning their respective categories in this year’s Colorado Blues Challenge held June 1 at the Buffalo Rose in Golden.

Since it’s outdoor show season, you can also follow the action as I bring you short video segments of the shows and people and places I’m a part of this summer.

Coming up on the Bohemian Nights “Thursday Night Live” stage in Old Town Square, Fort Collins:

  • June 12 – Young Ancients
  • June 19 – Selasee and the Fafa Family
