FAN FAVORITE POLL – 2013 – Jazz / Instrumental

Colorado has long been known for its brilliant jazz scene – dating back into the 1940s.  At one time, Denver was a top 3 jazz market, and schools like the University of Northern Colorado (Greeley) and the LaMont School of Music at Denver University have long been considered top schools for jazz in the country.  This year’s list of jazz and instrumentals includes solo finger style guitar from Maxwell Hughes, to avant-garde and big band.  Enjoy.

Only those records released between November 1, 2012 and October 30, 2013 are considered “current” 2013 releases for the purpose of this poll, and the end of year charts.  Pick your three favorites of the year.  Pls share.

I will be using the following GENRE/PROGRAM FORMAT  as I do in the chart post every month.

Americana / Alt-country / Bluegrass
Blues / Rhythm & Blues
Folk / folk-rock / singer-songwriter
Indie / New Alternative
Jazz / Instrumental
Pop / Adult Contemporary / Crossover
Rock / AAA / ALT / AOR
Urban Contemporary / EDM / Hip Hop / Soul

If you’re old enough you still think of “indie” as being all about a DIY ethos and practice – yeah, not so much really.  That’s still prevalent with our list of Indie / New Alternate titles of 2013 – but Colorado is really known to many as a birthplace of sorts for “indie” music — going back to the goth-Americana of 16 Horsepower that evolves into Wovenhand — or the likes of the Apples in Stereo or Dressy Bessy.  However we define it, it’s one of the more popular “styles” of music in Colorado today.

Only those records released between November 1, 2012 and October 30, 2013 are considered “current” 2013 releases for the purpose of this poll, and the end of year charts.

FAN FAVORITE POLL – 2013 – Folk / folk-rock / singer songwriter

In the history of Colorado music, we’ve had more than our share of tremendous folk artists, and singer-songwriters … John Denver, Dan Fogelberg, Judy Collins, Harry Tuft, Chuck Pyle and others just to name a handful… even Bob Dylan who lived in Denver for a brief time in the 60s.  This year’s list is among the most impressive in recent years …
