Monday JAN 10, 2022 – Happy Monday morning. Due to a computer glitch this past weekend, the Colorado Playlist did not air correctly at KJAC 105.5 The Colorado Sound. New programming software can have some bugs ya know? It did and will, however, air correctly at the other stations this week.

The MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) is a bit interesting this week. I showcased a couple of songs this week on the show that came out from late 2020 (2 Gentlemen) to early 2021 (Carolyn Shulman).

2 Gentlemen features Denver bassist Windall Armour who many may recall from his days in Opie Gone Bad. He and long time friend Kenny James (currently in Atlantic City) bring the funk hard on It’s All About the Views, a song that “…talks about where we are with social media and our fixation on collecting views as well as status in the social world.”

Carolyn Shulman was a pleasant find a couple of weeks ago. The Denver by way of Houston lawyer and singer-songwriter has earned considerable praise and folk radio airplay for her Americana country-folk, inspired by Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Patty Griffin.

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats not only held on to the #1 spot in the TOP 5 this week and at Roots Music Report.com, but appears to be increasing in the number of spins reported statewide. Remember, RMR.com also represents airplay of Colorado releases outside of Colorado – including internationally and on Internet radio stations that report.

I do expect to see the new album from Yonder Mountain String Band make a strong impression statewide, since debuting at #8 at RootsMusicReport.com. I do not expect to see it rise to TOP 5 status in my reporting due to lack of play on the top two stations spinning Colorado music in our state. The same is true for the new album by Colorado native Corey Harris, whose album The Insurrection Blues is currently #2 at Roots Music Report but doesn’t show up at the stations I survey weekly.

Jan 03, 2022 – Happy New Year! Thousands of fans flooded the 12th Annual Colorado Playlist Listener Poll last month, making it one of the four best years over the past twelve. There were also a record number of categories for you to vote in.

One interesting aspect this year = songs and artists/bands selected as best of the year not showing up in the TOP 40 Colorado radio spin chart.

Spotify and YouTube playlists are at the bottom of CP LISTENER POLL/TOP 40 2021

The weekly TOP 5 and monthly Top 30 thanks to Spinitron – built to benefit non-commercial community/public and college radio and offering advanced search functions for artists and agents at Spinitron.com

Did you MISS listening to the show this weekend? You’re in luck. You can stream it throughout the week – or listen via FM radio if you’re around one of the stations airing it.

Picture by Chris K. from our most recent trip to Ouray.

Monday NOV 08, 2021 – When it’s early November and 75 degrees and sunny on a Sunday, that’s a top down drive kinda day. We took a long drive down through Garden of the Gods and up into the foothill, where we wound up at the Bucksnort Saloon in Pine for a set of live music. Not sure I’ll see it again in 2021.

So, call it 2022. At least for new releases. I spent part of the weekend filtering the “best” of Colorado as aired at the thirteen stations I survey weekly. Watch for the annual listener poll where you can lend your voice to the stations around the state.

I’m also not sure anything is going to bump Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, The Lumineers and The Velveteers from the top of the spins charts until next year. It’s the #4 and #5 spots where we’re likely to see a weekly contest. Animal Electricity and Kiltro are trending high enough in airplay to hold onto the fourth and fifth chart position for another couple of weeks.
