COLORADO TOP 100 FAN POLL 2015

If you came looking for this week’s regular post, sorry .. next week.  All the stations ran a repeat of an earlier episode this week. I took a few days off to spend with Mrs Goat for Thanksgiving and did not produce a new show this week.  Instead, welcome to the BEST OF 2015 FAN POLL.

There are HUNDREDS of recordings released in Colorado every year.  I’ve been fortunate over the years to chronicle over 300 releases a year on average.  Below are the TOP 100 that came into my view from Nov 1 2014 to Oct 31 2015.

My list is built from what is played on The Colorado Sound, as well as several non-commercial public and community radio stations around the state that I’ve watched and charted over the past six years.  Not everything or every style of music being made in Colorado is represented.

Stations like Open Air 102.3, 88.9FM KRFC, and 91.5FM KUNC form a trifecta of stations emitting love for Colorado musicians and their music, with coverage spanning the region from Northern Colorado through Denver, and around state, courtesy of KUNC’s 20 regional frequencies.

There’s some stuff missing .. there always is.

I could not find embeds for everything.  I tried to find a single track as a minimum.  Some links without an embed take you straight to the artist website page where you can stream and/or purchase their recordings.

Please do spend a little bit this holiday season on Colorado music … even a few bucks means someone liked it enough to “buy” it.  It’s the knowing that folks care enough to support our music with a “buy” that really matters – not the amount.  So please do support.

So there ya go … please VOTE HERE for your favorites after you’ve had a chance to check things out.

The Colorado Sound S9 EP45 NOV 2015

All in all this was a pretty quiet week.  Mrs Goat and I are looking forward to Thanksgiving, so I’m not too sure about a new show for this coming weekend.  Much more likely it will be an encore show this week.

Update on wife:  no news to report.  She has another test this Wednesday.  We’ll know more next week.  In the meantime, the stress got to me 😦  LOL.  Stomach mechanic (doctor) on call.  March on!  Let’s not stop this train …

Our band, Goatz! (acoustic) will be appearing on Dec 17 @ Oskar Blues/Lyons.  7-9PM, All ages, No cover.  Hope you’ll keep that in mind.

New music editor at Westword.  Katie Moulton.  Read it from her own pen.

Have a superfantastic week.

Goat

The Colorado Sound S9|EP40 2015

I spend my days listening to music from here in Colorado.  I am frequently blown away.  Lately it’s been new releases from Megan Burtt and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, both of which deserve plenty of national attention and one of which is.

night sweatsThis weekend I got into a conversation about the state of Colorado music – and talk got around to Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats and how they just landed at #1 on the Billboard Adult Alternative singles chart.  A brilliant song + #1 Billboard chart action => ?Grammy nomination??  …can you name each of the Grammy nominees and winners from Colorado the past several years?  It’s a pretty impressive list that includes Gerald Albright, Dianne Reeves, Chris Daniels, Pretty Lights, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) and the Lumineers.

chrisdanielsthekings3Big Birthday Hugs to my pal Chris Daniels who posted over the weekend that “…FUNKY TO THE BONE is nominated for 4 different Grammys in the 58th Grammy Awards! It is the preliminary round – but we are up for BEST BLUES ALBUM Category 49! There are 143 artists in that category like Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and on an on — so making it to an actual nomination is going to be pretty impossible – but hey – I’m alive and that’s a miracle in and of itself – …”

Chris Forsythe, age 42, a lifelong resident of the Colorado Springs area, passed away suddenly on October 14, 2015 at his home. He was a sound engineer for the Black Sheep, a musician, a father, son, brother, uncle and friend to the music community of Colorado.  More info.

Speaking of spending my days listening to Colorado music …I listen a lot in my car and at the gym via my Verizon data plan to The Colorado Sound Live365 … based on the most heard tracks the past 30 days it seems like (if you’re listening) it’s during the morning mix set .. which is heavy on the classics.  If you’d like less “old” / more “new,” with more snap-crackle-pop then listen noon-6PM … at 6PM it’s the Jazz Dinner time … at night it gets edgier.

KCMJ logoBeginning Saturday Oct 24, The Colorado Sound will be presented on KCMJ in Colorado Springs.  The show will air from 3PM-5PM on Saturdays.  KCMJ is currently only streaming; they’re working on raising the remaining $10K needed to erect a tower, purchase a transmitter etc. to get on the FM dial at 93.9FM.

That brings The Colorado Sound up to 60 hours of programming a week, aired on 39 frequencies.
