CP S12 EP25 2018

I’ve been asked a few times what happened to last week’s post.  A human error on my part … I sent out the wrong version of the show, so there was no point in posting a playlist that never happened.  I made sure I sent out the correct version of the show this week.

There have been times over the past 12 years when a record has sat in my collection for several months before it rises to the top and gets debuted (D) on the show.  This week it was Durango’s Lacey Black, whose latest album All These Years (2017) took time for me to recognize and get into the show.

Also new this week – The Indigo Girls, who are NOT a Colorado acts, but their latest album is a live recording with the CU Symphony – so it makes the cut along with Colorado native Tia Fuller, who has long since lived in New Jersey.

The String Cheese Incident have been playing around in their home studio as part of their Sound Lab series .. and have put out two new singles, including this week’s MMMM add, Vertigo.

A premiere this week in advance of the official release = Minor, a new project featuring Jessa Raskin,  who was formerly teamed up with Jordan Polovina (Whiskey Blanket, Michel Menert) in Grim&Darling.  Minor will be releasing the track and a video to the public on July 3rd.

CP S12 EP23 2018

A NOTE about the MMMM … When I started it many months ago I intended it as a way to share the new music in this blog that I debuted each week in the broadcast version of the show. I never intended the KEEP or DELETE feature to be a way for fans of a band to just come in and run up votes without also experiencing the other new cuts I share … which has happened more and more over time.

I can tell every time a band’s fans only vote for the band that drives them to the poll.  A song may get 60+ KEEP votes while five other songs get a bare handful of votes.

I appreciate every vote that every song earns.  I hope those who vote for one song at least check out others that are shared.

It’s never easy to announce the end of an era, especially when it entails the death of a friend or family member. Last Wednesday, as I was finishing up production on EP23 news flashed across my FB pg that Coupe Studios (Boulder) founder Scott Roche passed away from cancer.

I did not know Scott well.  We knew each other professionally through the scene, and he always wanted me to know about some new record coming from Coupe.  I actually got to record one song there, one my late wife wrote called Once Upon a Snowflake.  It was the very first song I ever recorded.

The history of Coupe Studios will not end with Scott.  He was wise enough to know that all life ends and if the studio was to continue then younger people had to do the work – so he set it up that way – that a couple of younger guys would move the vision forward.

Long live Coupe Studios (founded in a chicken coop) – RIP Scott Rouch.

CP S12 EP22 2018

Monday morning coffee, thinking about the past weekend. The view of the Front Range from my dining room table is obscured this morning – either by smoke from the Durango fire, or a pollution haze. My heart immediately goes out to those communities. There’s no doubt that this will affect the summer outdoor concert season in some parts of the state – and the livelihoods of those dependent on that business.

At Bohemian Foundation, our focus is on building community …by coming together to create and enjoy music.

This time of year is both a blessing and a curse for live music in our region.  On one hand there are innumerable outdoor shows – many, if not most, free to the public.  On the other hand, indoor venues can suffer from the plethora of FREE outdoor events that are also family friendly and begin and end earlier in the day.

I host the weekly Bohemian Nights Thursday Night Live series in Old Town Fort Collins, and the monthly Wellington Main Street Live concert series on the third Saturday of June, July and August.  I also produce and host the annual Carbon Valley Music & Spirits Festival and am the main state emcee for Bohemian Nights at New West Fest – both in August.  All of these events and HUNDREDS more are FREE to the public and showcase some of the best of the best of Colorado talent.

A late night chat, last night, with a manager of a regional restaurant/music venue – and my own experiences and observations recently – indicates that the deluge of more nationally recognized names performing regionally also has an impact on the local music scene, along with the abundance of FREE outdoor shows.  Bottom line = #supportlocalmusic #supportlocalmusicvenues

Well, it’s official.  I got word from Oriental Theater owners Scott LaBarbera and Andy Bercaw that “Peter Ore is our main booking person for us now – he left Soda Jerk after Livenation bought them out – he’s keeping us super busy.”
