The Colorado Sound S7 EP46 DEC 2013

chris at ob hmls sunday june 16 2013WOW … I’m freaking blown away now … seriously.  Sunday – Dec 15, 2013 – unique page views for the month = over 6000 and counting.  Until now, the best month ever (launched March 2009) was 2227, this past May …the entire year 2012 = 15,473.  The Colorado Live365 has also been enjoying the best listener metrics of the past several months … already we’re at 424 streams launched and 232 total listening hours logged.  In November we only did 320 streams launched /76 TLH (total listener hours).  HUGE improvement.  Funds raised so far = $665 / $1200 goal by March 1.

Lots to cover in this week’s post – and a rare two video pick Sunday.  Also, something new in the playlist section I hope will be entertaining.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.

As posted in Westword this past week …

The Denver Public Library is seeking local music for a flagship program it’s preparing to launch this spring called Volume Denver. “We were talking about how we really wanted to do something to get some content that you can’t find at Walmart or the other big box stores,” says Joan Hansen of the library’s Collection Development team. “There’s a great music scene in Denver, and we thought we could probably find a lot of bands who were interested in having the exposure and supporting the library, so that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Ideally, the library would like to launch the site next spring with a healthy selection of local music for cardholders to have access to. The site will be browsable by artist or album, with detailed information about each act and links to the individual websites. With 647,078 CDs checked out from the Denver Public Library system last year, an estimated 400,000 cardholders and over nine million visits to the library’s website alone in 2012, the potential for exposure for the scene to new listeners is obviously immense.

You can get more information about it by emailing Joan Hansen at colldev@denverlibrary.org

VIDEO PICKS OF THE WEEK:

Xiren enters 2014 with a new song and new video that will no doubt, as this past year, emerge at year’s end as one of the “best of.”  In the almost 13 years since I first heard Bullets & Rainbows, Xiren has managed to stay current with contemporary music and video, and he’s definitely emerged as one of  the best (if not the best) music video artist/producers in Colorado right now.  This really is his strongest work to date, and with it he makes a pretty powerful statement that he’s ready for a much bigger stage to showcase his work on.

In a rare treat — just as I was getting ready to publish today, Jeremy Lawton posted a couple of new videos of BHTM at Red Rocks, that he mixed the audio on… just too damned tasty not to get one in this week.  🙂

The Colorado Sound S7EP45 DEC 2013

chrisk w new hatWOW what an incredible week!  You managed to blast away more long standing records than I could have imagined.  For that I am very grateful.  I believe it was about a week ago I posted “Sad News,” where I bemoaned that I was going to have to shut down The Colorado Sound Live365 for lack of funds.  A few hours later I had to retract my statements, when I learned I was under contract until March 31, 2014.

You responded by contributing $600 in two days, and in the process boosting the listenership to new highs.  Two days later I began posting FAN FAVORITE POLLS for our BEST OF 2013 coming out on Dec 28, and the blog metrics blew up.

The Colorado Sound Live365 listener metrics Dec 1 – Dec 7 = 286 streams launched x 35.5 mins avg listening time = TLH (Total listening hours) 169.

IN the entire month of NOVEMBER, The Colorado Sound Live365 listener metrics = 321 streams launched x 14.2 mins avg listening time = TLH 76.

TheColoradoSound.com unique page views Dec 1 – Dec 7 = 3252.

The previous monthly unique pg views record -> May 2013 = 2227.

4 of the past 6 days could have easily been new single day pg view records, which was originally 386, set on Jan 2, 2011.  I thought the 457 views on Monday Dec 2 would last at least a year .. or more.  Until that was broken on Wednesday, when we logged 1300 unique pg views straight up.   WOW.

At this point I have no idea where you’re taking me …but I sure am enjoying the ride.

NEWS NOTES and SPINS – DECEMBER 1 2013

chris at ob hmls sunday june 16 2013(December 1, 2013) Happy holidaze.  November was a crazy month. Lots of news, and a big job opp for the right dj in Denver (see below for that).

I attended the Denver Music Summit and spent a couple of days listening to what several regional and national level independent music industry professionals had to say about the state-of-the-industry around the country – and within that there was a strong undercurrent that there’s something very special taking place in Colorado, and that 2014 will be a special year – Colorado beer, booze, budz, and bands anyone?

Here’s a common question I get: “is ________ a good month to send radio and print a new cd?” – the answer is, remarkably, YES.  Every month is a good month to send out new music, because by the time you send it, they receive it, listen to it, and get around to either writing about it or airing it, it can be days, if not a few weeks.  That said – going out in December – Spokes Buzz Vol. IV –  featuring some of Northern Colorado’s top acts – including the likes of Grant Farm, Maxwell Hughes, and The Yawpers among the dozen on the disc.

NOVEMBER HEADLINES

swayback_double four timeThe Swayback‘s “Double Four Time,” will be re-released worldwide on Self Made Records, a Nottingham, England-based label with distribution through RED, sometime next year.  The band will be heading to the U.K. for a tour in support of the release.

Coloradoans ONEREPUBLIC announced they’ll be part of the Teenage Cancer Trust Concert, March 27, 2014 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

img-cmhof-logoThe Colorado Music Hall of Fame is moving out of their temporary home at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield and moving into the Trading Post at Red Rocks.

Judy Collins, Bob Lind, Serendipity Singers, and Chris Daniels were all inducted as members of the Class of 2013 into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame.

Caught a post from Sean Kelly (the Samples) …he’s got Richie Furay sitting in on some vocals on a cut for the new Samples record due out mid-winter.  sean and richieChris Daniels is doing the same thing by having Freddi Gowdy of the Freddi Henchi Band on the Kings next record .. celebrating Chris Daniels and the King’s 30th Anniversary.
