CP S14 EP24 2020

It’s not often I introduce a new feature on the.  In fact I can’t recall the last time.  I’ve wanted to showcase albums from Caribou Ranch for some time now.  Caribou Ranch stands out as one of the crown jewels of the Colorado music scene throughout the seventies and eighties – and many of the records recorded there are considered true classics.  I hope you enjoy the segment called Classics From the Caribou Ranch Collection.

The week’s MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) has only two songs for you to rate.  I was very lucky to secure two radio only premiers from Boulder’s Trevor Hall and Fort Collin’s Johnny & the Mongrels, both from upcoming releases.

We got to head up into the Poudre Canyon this weekend to visit my friend Dani Grant and her team at the Mishawaka.  You need to call ahead for a table.  Yes, there is live music on the Poudre on this summer.

Please help Rocky Mountain Music Relief feed musicians.  Donations of $15 or more receive a #COmusic COVID mask as a thank you. Proceeds will benefit food needy musicians and their families. Please make sure to provide your address so we can mail your mask.

I am happy to support  FOCOMA (Fort Collins Musician Association)  Drive and Jive – a weekly series showcasing some of Northern Colorado’s popular acts – including upcoming shows from The Beeves with  Slow Caves, and Cary Morin with Del Shamen featuring John Magnie and Steve Amadee from the Subdudes along with Nick Forster (E-Town) and Jock Bartley (Firefall).

I gotta say – the only reason you don’t hear something like this on the regularly aired program is the FCC ban on f-bombs and other inappropriate language.  Otherwise… this shit kills, and this man brings it old skool.

CP S14 EP21 2020

MONDAY JUNE 01 2020 – Despite COVID and despite protests and riots this weekend, music still played an incredible role in the lives of those who earn their living in music.  On Saturday night, the Colorado Music Relief Fund raised over $500,000  to support those in our industry affected by our industry being shut down.

The event included Colorado based acts Austin Young, Gabrielle Louise, Inaiah Lujan, Isaac Slade (The Fray), Nathaniel Rateliff, Nick and Helen Forster (E-Town), The Lumineers, The Reminders, The Still Tide, The String Cheese Incident, Todd Park Mohr (Big Head Todd & the Monsters) and Wildermiss  along with a great cast of national acts who consider Colorado special in their lives and careers.

Over 135,000 people live streamed the event on Youtube.  If you missed it, you can watch now.

In lieu of a weekly spins chart this week, I will be publishing the MAY 2020 CO TOP 40 TITLES tomorrow, June 2 – which will also include separate TOP 5 spins from 105.5 The Colorado Sound and Indie 102.3. That said….

ROOTS MUSIC REPORT WK ENDING MAY 30 2020 finds Reverend Freakchild reclaiming the #1 spot over Nathaniel Rateliff with the rest of the top five remaining as it was was last with — #3=Mojomama, #4=The Lumineers and #5=Lee Sims.

At Bohemian Foundation, our focus is on building community …by coming together to create and enjoy music. Bohemian Foundation’s NoCo Music Relief Fund provides assistance for individuals in the Northern Colorado Music Community who are severely financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic

COLORADO’S TOP 40 – RIGHT NOW

Friday May 15, 2020 – WOW.  I can’t recall the last time I pulled a statewide radio airplay chart of Colorado titles, played at Colorado non-comm stations.  I know it’s been at least five or six years – and maybe longer.

Normally, I track Roots Music Report.  Only a couple of Colorado stations report to RMR, along with several US, European and Internet stations.  RMR also doesn’t filter for current year releases.  A look at their weekly spins chart shows titles that are a few years old. So, when we look at their spins, we’re getting a more global look at what CO releases are getting played.

There are over 20 non-commercial public/community & college radio stations in our state.  Twelve of those stations use playlist generator Spinitron.  They include KAFM (Grand Junction), KBUT (Crested Butte), KCSU (Fort Collins), KDNK (Carbondale), KDUR (Durango), KFFR (Winter Park), KMSA (Grand Junction), KOTO (Telluride), KRFC (Fort Collins), KRZA (Alamosa-Taos), KSJD (Mancos) and KVNF (Paonia).

    • Airplay charted April 13-May 14 2020.
