Colorado Playlist – S11 EP42

ROCKY MOUNTAIN MUSIC RELIEF mobilizes the Colorado music and media communities to raise funds to assist musicians throughout the U.S. affected by natural disasters.

NEWS NOTES & THOUGHTS

Last night we celebrated another RMMR event to raise money for professional working musicians affected by natural disasters.  Thanks to the RMMR board of directors and various members who came out to volunteer and support the cause at the Fox Theater in Boulder, and thanks especially to Cyril Neville for performing.  All in all a small crowd enjoyed an excellent evening of local Colorado musicians putting their efforts where their hearts are.

Thanks to KHEN LPFM in Salida for adding the show to their Saturday and Tuesday rotation.  They will air one hour of the show each Saturday at 5PM, and repeat on Tuesday night at 8.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

There are a few videos in this week’s post, but the featured video this week goes to Hollow.  The Hollow is a fairly new band, formed in 2013.  Not very many strictly local bands go the extent of promoting video release shows.  The Hollow did one in Fort Collins and in Denver, before debuting the video to the public this week.

NEWS NOTES and THOUGHTS

I lost a very good friend this past week; someone who was insurmountably influential in me building my business as a stage manager and main stage/event emcee.

Roger Armstrong was the executive director of CHUN (Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods).  Their main annual fundraising event was the CHUN People’s Fair, held the first weekend of June.

Roger, like other friends (and my late wife) lost his battle with cancer.  RIP my friend – I WILL always remember our friendship.  I’ve been looking at the picture of us on the wall outside my office for years – and it’s not coming down.

The PF is no longer produced by CHUN, but the spirit remains the same.  I intend to honor my friend at the event in June 2018.

My girlfriend and I took a drive to Colorado Springs on Sunday, to visit Garden of the Gods on what might be the last best Sunday to do so.  Hunger drove me to go into downtown CS to visit the new Oskar Blues location there.

Yes, they will have live music – no, it will not be every weekend.  The “music room” is set apart from the main restaurant in the “basement,” and is fashioned after a speakeasy.  The apparent intent, in talking with the GM, is that they’ll do music every once in awhile.  That, of course, may change.

The Oskar Blues Brewery 15th ANNIVERSARY party set for Nov 18th at the Oak Room in the Brewery in Longmong is SOLD OUT!

The COLORADO PLAYLIST has been added to rotation at KHEN in Salida — will air Sat 5-6PM and Tues 8-9PM.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Chris Daniels’ & the Kings latest is Blues with Horns, Vol 1.  It’s up for Grammy consideration, and is the first #1  charting record (Roots Music Report) in the band’s 30 year history.

NEWS, NOTES AND MUSIC

There are 10 episodes of the show left this year, including the BEST OF – which will air the last weekend of the year, and the first weekend of January as I take my final vacation of the year.

It was a hellova week for new music and video adds.  That’s sure to carryover into the first week of November as bands and artists get their end of year releases out.

Not only did I receive the new releases I broke in this week’s show but others I couldn’t get to, and I’m still expecting the new album from Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats (Live at Red Rocks) and others due out in early November.

Every week I get exposed to some new Colorado music I’ve never heard before.  This week it came by way a couple of friends on FB.

One band is Sunsquabi, out of Boulder.  They’re headlining the region’s largest non-arena venue, and no doubt one of the most prestigious, the Fillmore Auditorium on Nov 11.  Here’s their latest .. it’ll show up in the Playlist this coming week.

I don’t get to play much from the loud rock styles on my program, or rap or most of what’s considered modern hip-hop.  That doesn’t mean there are not some incredible acts in those genres.

A friend turned me onto modern metal band Random Hero this weekend.  Their single “”Impossible” hit #33 this week! Up three spots on Billboard’s Main Stream Rock Chart.  That’s one hell of an accomplishment, so can’t help but share it with you.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

The Burroughs have been considered one of the region’s most explosive live music shows since they debute on the scene about four years ago now.  Their newest single amplifies the energy they are know for onstage.
