VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

CP S14 EP06 2020

Monday Feb 16, 2020 – This has been one of the most heartbreaking weeks I’ve experienced in our scene lately.  Death happens.  The two forms of death in our community that sting the most are suicide and homicide. We rarely understand either – the motivations behind taking a life, your own or someone else’s.

This past week it was learned that Northern Colorado trumpet player Scott Sessions was found dead in the area of Old Flowers Road and Pingree Park Road in Bellevue, north of Fort Collins. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating his death as a homicide.  Officials have not released any further details.

Scott was a vibrant supporter of our scene.  The man’s positiveness was infectious.  His boundless positive energy not only showed up in his often scene stealing performances as part of the horn section in the rhythm and blues band the Movers & Shakers, but also when he would introduce bands at events such as FoCOMX …which he did last year when he introduced me and my band, GOATZ!

I didn’t know Scott well.  Our friendship was limited to the times we met at shows – either his band’s (which I have booked at two shows this summer), or some other local music event.  Truthfully, I will miss his engaging personality and infectious positive energy on stage and off.

OFFSTAGE – BEYOND THE MUSIC

I’m not known for doing interviews.  In fact, this interview with Don Strasburg from AEG Live is the first interview I’ve published since February 2019.  Interviews I’ve attempted since with Kenny Passarelli (Joe Walsh, Elton John) and Rick Roberts (Firefall) were scrapped due to operator error.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

I’m happy to say I’ve known the Fort Collins’ native sisters collectively known as SHEL since they were backing up their Dad, Andrew, many years ago.  I’ve been able to see four incredible young women blossom into one of Colorado’s musical jewels – totally bright and refreshing.

Eva traveled to India to make the music video for Rainbow with a focus on raising much-needed funds and awareness for some of the world’s most vulnerable women, the widows of Vrindavan, India.

Being a widower, the boyfriend of a widow and the friend of several widows and widowers, I feel some empathy for the plight of these women, who are ostracized from their families and society – becoming “untouchables” in Indian society; forced into an ascetic existence with no one but themselves to rely on financially or socially.  Learn More

MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEETING (MMMM)

You make a big difference in what gets played on the show.  Every week I share some or all of the new music played on the show with you, here in the MMMM.  Your rating gets factored into my decision in what to maintain in the show’s “for airplay” library.

CP S13 EP09 2019

Monday Feb 25 2019

If you missed it, here’s the entire interview with Eddie Roberts, a member of the band The New Mastersounds from England, a Colfax Ave resident the past four years, and a founding partner in the new Denver label Color Red.  Run time = 20 minutes.

Coming up in a future episode, Colorado Music Hall of Fame inductee as a member of Firefall – Rick Roberts joins me. Rick and former Zephyr guitarist Jock Bartley formed Firefall in 1974. Rick was also the voice of the Flying Burrito Brothers from 1970 to 1972 and recorded two albums under his own name, before forming Firefall.

New music hit this week from my own band, GOATZ!  Veronique Van Pelt, and Drew Ballantyne.  Fortunately, it was a light week because I still have releases to get to from Amy and the Peace Pipes, Bison Bone and others.

Last week’s MMMM was off the charts .. we set a new five year record for most visits and most views and most votes.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

I overheard someone say recently that he wished more bands would do protest songs. Intuit is a violin / cello driven Rocky Mountain acoustic groove-rock band with roots in a diverse range of musical styles.  They’re also a bit political – or at least socially conscious.
