CP S12 EP33 2018

MONDAY SEPT 3, 2018 – Happy Labor Day.  We’re getting pretty close to the end of the 2018 release year, which runs November 2017 through Oct 2018.  So we have about three months until I begin tabulating your votes for the Best of show at the end of the year and the Fan Poll for the year.  By the time we get to the end of the “new model” year, I will have shared nearly 300 new tracks with you from here in Colorado.

Contenders for this year’s BEST OF include new and or upcoming new titles from mainstays and obvious contenders such as DeVotchka, Gregory Alan Isakov and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats as well as up and comers  like Oxeye Daisey and Gingerbomb.  Your votes matter, so don’t forget to let me know whether to KEEP or DELETE in the MMMM below.

Debuts this week include new and/or upcoming new releases from alt-rockers Augustus and CITRA – and Americana/alt-country from Matt Rouch & the Noise Upstairs.  There’s also a new cut from the previously debuted David Starr albumSouth and West.”

At Bohemian Foundation, our focus is on building community …by coming together to create and enjoy music.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

NEW ARTIST ALERT:  well, she’s not exactly a new artist, but she is relatively new to Colorado.  Turns out award winning NYC vagabond musician/painter Elli Perry has at least temporarily settled down in Fort Collins.  The music video for her song “Burn The River Down” won the award for Best Sound at the New York Independent Film Festival in May.  She’s been in Fort Collins since February according to sources there, and it’s rumored she may be interested in staying a while… as in set down some roots in our Colorado music scene.

MISHAWAKA MISH’N BOOSTER OFFERS $7300 IN FUNDING FOR ORGANIZATIONS

BELLVUE, Colo., August 27, 2018 — Mishawaka Amphitheatre will offer $7300 in direct sponsorship dollars to organizations, as well as silent auction and event venue space, as a part of the Mish Initiative philanthropic program.

The Mish’n Booster award application review period will open September 1, with funding available to organizations that align with Mish company values: music, community, integrity, sustainability, and tolerance.

Applications for the fall funding round will be accepted and reviewed through October 1.  15 applicants were funded a total of $7700 in the spring Mish’n Booster funding round earlier in 2018.

“As business owners with big dreams, we understand how difficult it can be to gain traction with a passion project,” said Dani Grant, Mishawaka Amphitheatre owner and general manager. “Our Mish’n Booster program allows us to help other organizations achieve their visions, by giving them both direct and indirect funding opportunities, and sometimes just the space needed to celebrate and increase the momentum.”

Mish’n Booster applicants are able to request direct funding and silent auction donations year-round, and nonprofit organizations can apply for space to host events in the SpokesBUZZ Lounge — Mishawaka’s indoor dance hall and stage — from October through April each year.

The current list of 2018 Mish’n Booster beneficiaries can be found at: http://www.themishawaka.com/mish-granted/2018-mishn-booster-recipients/

Next, Mishawaka philanthropy will turn toward providing funding for artist development, through the venue’s Mish Granted program. Applications for artists will be accepted starting in October, with a total of $15,000 available during the fall application period.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Matt Hoffman has a dual identity.  When I first met Mat 16 years ago he was the drummer in a Fort Collins based rock band that I booked a few times.  Then about 6 years ago he re-emerged in a band called Strange Americans, that he formed with Trent Nelson.  Then a couple of years ago he sent me something under the moniker New Mexican — The new album, called “Take It On Our Shoulders” is due for release on Sept 28 … I’ll be premiering cuts from the album over the next few weeks.

CP S12 EP31 2018

I love summers.  Anyone who is in the music industry .. and I suspect many many thousands who are not employed in the music industry … enjoys all the musical activity that takes place on stages large and small … from downtown – small town – events with strictly “local” bands to the biggest stages with the biggest names in the county.  And, we are in the thick of it.

Bohemian Nights at New West Fest is logged for 2018. As is usual for this annual event that is now moving towards 15 years old, many tens of thousands showed up to enjoy some 80 bands … over 99% of which were from Colorado.  It was a sunny hot weekend, and yes, after two years of weather miscues, the Subdudes finally managed to entertain us with a full Sunday start set.

I finished the Wellington Main Street Summer Concert Series in a thunder and hail storm this weekend.  And my band, GOATZ!, played in the rain for the 8th annual Fort Collins Peach Festival.

There are still many many more events to attend and to be a part of by the time I actually get to vacation in mid-September.

Congratulations to Ryan Chrys (Ryan Chrys and the Roughcuts) who was voted “Entertainer of the year” by the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame.  He was also nominated “Outlaw Group, 2018” by the Ameripolitan Music Awards
