CP S12 EP41 2018

Monday Oct 29 2018 Well, that’s it.  October is in the books, and with it the 2018 new release year.  It’s been an exciting year of music – and now it’s time to start working on what records will be considered among the best of the past year.  Be looking for upcoming polls and posts with your chance to vote.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Betsy Mortenson and Harrison Goodale, the principles behind Sustain Music & Nature, an amazing organization that recently invited the Burroughs to participate in in Songscapes.  Here’s our chat:

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Anyone doubting that the Album of the Year is for 2018?  Oh, and have you heard of Nathaniel’s new candy bar?

“A Little Honey” Handcrafted Chocolate with Honey, Blood Orange, and Marigold

“Inspired by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats’ “A Little Honey”, this limited edition craft chocolate is a fundraising collaboration between The Marigold Project, Small Batch America, and Fruition Chocolate Works. Made with 74% dark heirloom Costa Rican cacao, organic honey, blood orange, and marigold petals. Packaged in a letterpress sleeve.

Proceeds from ‘A Little Honey’ will benefit The Marigold Project and Denver Urban Garden’s work to support Denver residents in creating sustainable, food-producing neighborhood community gardens. DUG knows that in order to make lasting change, the community needs to drive it. That’s why every one of their urban gardens and farms have been started and led by local residents. They currently have over 170 gardens in six counties in the Metro Denver Area.”

CP S12 EP37 2018

Monday Oct 1 2018 – Happy October. As the month begins I say thanks for coming by here every week.  The visits in September were the best they’ve been since 2015.  I appreciate it.  I’ll be reviewing the KEEP or DELETE votes as we get closer to the end of the year for the Best of 2018 show.

This week’s Monday Morning Music Meeting below includes new music from Whiskey Autumn, and Eldren.

Happy 2nd birthday to the Music District in Fort Collins, one of the fantastic supporters of the show. Regardless of their financial support, what they do is transformative and inspiring in Fort Collins, and to the benefit of our regional and state music scene.  I do encourage you to visit their website, and visit them in person sometime.  I’m honored and thankful for their support.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to the Burroughs for the incredible opportunity to be a part of Songscape. a very cool project done in association with the non-profit organization Sustain Music & Nature.

The Burroughs are the first non-acoustic folk band to participate from around the country. The band was asked to create a song inspired by their experience following a week-long retreat in Roosevelt National Forest. And… if you’ve ever seen the Burroughs live you know Johnny loves to dance 😉

Proceeds from song sales help support Sustain, the band, and public lands.”

CP S12 EP36 2018

Monday Sept 24, 2018 … It has been a pretty busy week in the scene here lately …

The Burroughs announced they have a new video coming out on September 29, called “Step Into the Music.”  It was done in partnership and collaboration with the Colorado based non-profit organization Sustain Music & Nature.  Here’s the video explaining who they are and what they do.  Look for the video for “Step Into the Music” to appear here (hopefully) next week.  I’ll debut the song in EP37 (SPT 22-28) of the show

The Fort Collins’ sisters SHEL sent out a a VERY EXCITING announcement.  They will be the closing night act for the 2018 Women Sports Film Festival in San Francisco at the end of the month.  Check out the accolades in this promo video!

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Andy Palmer has been one of the brightest highlights of the music scene in our region the past several years, going back to the breakout single “Grrrr,” from his debut “Sometime Around,” that dropped Sept 21 2011 – seven years ago.

Recently, Andy announced an indefinite hiatus from music activities to refocus on other endeavors and his family.  His exit from the scene is amplified by some of the starkest lyrics and imagery in his accomplished and highly praised body of work, in the video for “The Switch,” the title track from his most recent album that came out in May 2017.

As usual in Andy’s music, he leaves us with a hopeful feeling, despite being weighted down by existential burdens in life.  Let’s hope we get to hear more from Andy in the future.  Good luck and good living my friend.
