KRFC PD Hospitalized with Heart Attack

Got some pretty unsettling news yesterday.  Apparently, according to an email from gm Brian Hughes, my old friend and current program director for KRFC, John Hayes, has suffered a minor heart attack.

“As some of you have heard, KRFC Program Director John Hayes was hospitalized yesterday after suffering a minor heart-attack. I have spoken to him a few times and he is doing well, but will likely be in the hospital over the weekend. I will keep everyone as up to date on his recovery as I can, and let you know when things have settled down and he is up for visitors.”

Get better soon buddy 🙂

College radio heads off the dial

Every once in a while I come across an article that really shows where radio is and/or where it’s going.  The leading edge of media and music has got to be college radio.  For as long as I can recall that’s where you went to find out what was freaky and cool … since the kids in college are those learning how to do new things, they are transforming broadcasting as we’ve known it for nearly 100 years now …. check this ..

“Most of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 700 college members now stream on the Internet along with, or instead of, their broadcasting efforts. The Web’s freedom from Federal Communications Commission regulations is not the point. At stations like Fredonia’s, the goal is to transform themselves into the multimedia platforms they believe students with unprecedented tech appetites actually want, and it is changing the ethos, content and vibe of collegiate stations.”
