MONDAY OCTOBER 30 2023 – WOW .. OK Mr Winter! Thanks for reminding us that you’re still here (for those who like you and those who don’t). Of course, I spent my weekend huddled up with plenty of new releases to fill the show for the next several weeks. In the meantime, check out the updated Colorado 2023 on Spotify.

On the subject of new releases – last year about this time, I became acquainted with Emily Scott Robinson, whose album “American Siren” on John Prine’s (RIP) Oh-Boy Records became the Colorado Playlist Americana Album of the Year.

This year’s end of year Americana surprise comes from Jobi Riccio, who grew up in Morrison and who’s new album, “Whiplash,” is out on esteemed indie label, Yep Roc. Let me know what you think of the new single, below.

Join me for a special night as I receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

CP S17 EP23 2023

June 19, 2023 – We’re halfway through the 2023 release year. So, what’s HOT? What records make my BEST OF SO FAR FOR 2023?

BTTRFLY QUINTET, “Coast,” featuring Grammy-nominated drummer Adam Deitch (Lettuce); Grammy-winning trumpeter Benny Bloom (Lettuce); keyboardist Borahm Lee (Pretty Lights, Break Science); bassist Hunter Roberts (Break Science); and Big Gigantic producer and saxophonist Dominic Lalli.

I grew up in a jazz house in the 60s and played jazz briefly in the Jazz Lab 3 band, while attending Colorado State University in the late 80s. To this day, an end of evening whiskey and jazz are staples of my existence. Best listened to under high quality headphones, for all the nuance displayed by the stellar cast.

One caveat – beware – Drummer Adam Deitch can sometimes be a bit showy and overshadow some of the exceptional solos by Benny Bloom and Dominic Lalli.

The album was released in November, so I’ve had plenty of time to give this one a deep listen, or two …. or …. Favorite track = Good Things Come in 3s.
