CP S12 EP36 2018

Monday Sept 24, 2018 … It has been a pretty busy week in the scene here lately …

The Burroughs announced they have a new video coming out on September 29, called “Step Into the Music.”  It was done in partnership and collaboration with the Colorado based non-profit organization Sustain Music & Nature.  Here’s the video explaining who they are and what they do.  Look for the video for “Step Into the Music” to appear here (hopefully) next week.  I’ll debut the song in EP37 (SPT 22-28) of the show

The Fort Collins’ sisters SHEL sent out a a VERY EXCITING announcement.  They will be the closing night act for the 2018 Women Sports Film Festival in San Francisco at the end of the month.  Check out the accolades in this promo video!

At Bohemian Foundation, our focus is on building community …by coming together to create and enjoy music.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Andy Palmer has been one of the brightest highlights of the music scene in our region the past several years, going back to the breakout single “Grrrr,” from his debut “Sometime Around,” that dropped Sept 21 2011 – seven years ago.

Recently, Andy announced an indefinite hiatus from music activities to refocus on other endeavors and his family.  His exit from the scene is amplified by some of the starkest lyrics and imagery in his accomplished and highly praised body of work, in the video for “The Switch,” the title track from his most recent album that came out in May 2017.

As usual in Andy’s music, he leaves us with a hopeful feeling, despite being weighted down by existential burdens in life.  Let’s hope we get to hear more from Andy in the future.  Good luck and good living my friend.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Many people who live in our area today may not remember that Jill Sobule grew up in Denver in the 60s and 70s, and attended CU in Boulder.  It was only after she left the area to pursue music professionally that she had a hit in the 90s’ with I Kissed A Girl (no, not the more recent hit by the same name).  Since then, Jill has become known internationally as an exceptional folk artist — though her newest hit may not actually show her in that light.

CP S12 EP22 2018

Monday morning coffee, thinking about the past weekend. The view of the Front Range from my dining room table is obscured this morning – either by smoke from the Durango fire, or a pollution haze. My heart immediately goes out to those communities. There’s no doubt that this will affect the summer outdoor concert season in some parts of the state – and the livelihoods of those dependent on that business.

At Bohemian Foundation, our focus is on building community …by coming together to create and enjoy music.

This time of year is both a blessing and a curse for live music in our region.  On one hand there are innumerable outdoor shows – many, if not most, free to the public.  On the other hand, indoor venues can suffer from the plethora of FREE outdoor events that are also family friendly and begin and end earlier in the day.

I host the weekly Bohemian Nights Thursday Night Live series in Old Town Fort Collins, and the monthly Wellington Main Street Live concert series on the third Saturday of June, July and August.  I also produce and host the annual Carbon Valley Music & Spirits Festival and am the main state emcee for Bohemian Nights at New West Fest – both in August.  All of these events and HUNDREDS more are FREE to the public and showcase some of the best of the best of Colorado talent.

A late night chat, last night, with a manager of a regional restaurant/music venue – and my own experiences and observations recently – indicates that the deluge of more nationally recognized names performing regionally also has an impact on the local music scene, along with the abundance of FREE outdoor shows.  Bottom line = #supportlocalmusic #supportlocalmusicvenues

Well, it’s official.  I got word from Oriental Theater owners Scott LaBarbera and Andy Bercaw that “Peter Ore is our main booking person for us now – he left Soda Jerk after Livenation bought them out – he’s keeping us super busy.”
