CP S15 EP17 2021

Monday April 26, 2021 – I usually put most of this blog post together on Sunday nights and write final thoughts here on Monday morning. BUT – “today” is Saturday April 24. I’ll be on the road the next two days. I’ll also be on the road next weekend, when I travel to Durango for the Tico Time RV Resort Bluegrass Festival.

Middle Class Rock Star is a podcast hosted by  Andy Sydow.  Every week or so I feature a 7 to 8 minute segment featuring  a conversation Andy has with some of our scene’s top music makers and industry personalities.

This week’s guest is Chris Zacher, founder and executive director for the non-profit music venue, Levitt Pavilion and chairperson for the Colorado Independent Venue Association.

TOP 5 APRIL 24, 2021

The Colorado super-group Del Shamen, featuring John Magnie and Steve Amadee from the Subdudes, Nick Forster from E-Town and Hot Rize and Jock Bartley of Firefall fame, take top position thanks mostly to spins in Fort Collins and Paonia. Otherwise, other than shifting a notch or two, the TOP 5 looks the same as last week.

Valdez stays near the top thanks to the top two regional independent music stations, 105.5 The Colorado Sound and Indie 102.3, both of which have been featuring cuts from Wishbones the past two weeks. Same goes for *John Grant (honorary Coloradoan via the Czars and local family). Grant has a new single out that I’m sure both stations will give some love to.

TOP 5 and TOP 30 charts are pulled from published spins at 13 Colorado non-profit community/public and college radio stations.  Designed to benefit non-commercial public and college radio stations, record promoters and artists are among those most likely to benefit from the detailed search function.

Currently 11 Colorado radio stations utilize Spinitron.

  1. DEL SHAMEN – Del Shamen LP (Oct-20)
  2. VALDEZ – Wishbones LP (Apr-20)
  3. JOHN GRANT – Boy From Michigan SINGLE (Mar-21)

Over the past few weeks I’ve been pushing Stay At Home Silent Disco #2  presented by Tyler, The Creative (not the rap artist) on behalf of Rocky Mountain Music Relief, Inc – a CO 501c3 non-profit dedicated to helping our community.  We raised over $3000 to help in the cause.

Are you a working professional member of the Colorado music community?  I am also.  As you may know, I founded Rocky Mountain Music Relief to help out in times just like now. I know how hard things are.  Mortgage, utilities, transportation and food are just a few of the things that need attend4ing to.  If you truly are in need, please reach out.  www.rockymountainmusicrelief.org

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

COLORADO TOP 30 DEC 2020

JAN 03 2021 – Well, #1 is #1 – right?  And Nathaniel Rateliff AGAIN holds onto the #1 most spins for DECEMBER 2020.  Sarah Slaton and Dafna swapped the #2 position with Dafna’s debut dropping to #16 and Sarah Slaton’s latest jumping up from #17 in NOV, due largely to being a featured artist for DEC on Indie 102.3 and getting added to regular rotation on 105.5 the Colorado Sound.

New artists to watch for include Blakk Mantra, whose debut got added and made it to HOT rotation at 105.5 The Colorado Sound for December and former Chimney Choir co-founder Kris Drickey who struck out on her own with State Change (not avail on YouTube)

Spinitron  Designed to benefit non-commercial public and college radio stations. Record promoters and artists are among those most likely to benefit from the detailed search function. Currently 11 Colorado radio stations utilize Spinitron.
