CP S16 EP16 2022

MAY 09, 2022 – Somewhere along the time line over the past two weeks I lost a day. I did manage to see a show Friday night (May 06) and even write about it. The next day (Saturday) while listening to the new LIVE album from Kaitlyn Williams, I wrote about that. That’s more writing than I normally get around to on a weekend.

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats and the Lumineers swapped places this week (big surprise – LOL). Nic Clark enters this week’s TOP 5. Nic’s debut hits the charts about a year after he moved out of Colorado, but the locally homegrown blues harp player and producer got plenty of spins from 88.9 KRFC Fort Collins the past couple of weeks to earn the slot.

Earth, Wind & Fire sax player Andrew Woolfolk passed away April 24. Lead singer and fellow Denver East HS grad Philip Bailey celebrated a birthday May 07. I paid tribute in this week’s show.

CP S15 EP16 2021

Monday April 19, 2021 – A Colorado music legend passed away last week. Poco founding member and sole remaining original member of the band, Rusty Young passed away last week at the age of 75. Rusty’s Colorado origins go back to the mid-sixties when he and future Poco drummer and vocalist George Grantham were in the psychedelic rock band Boenzee Cryque. I’ll pay tribute to Rusty in the next episode of the show, airing April 24-30.

COLORADO TOP 30 DEC 2020

JAN 03 2021 – Well, #1 is #1 – right?  And Nathaniel Rateliff AGAIN holds onto the #1 most spins for DECEMBER 2020.  Sarah Slaton and Dafna swapped the #2 position with Dafna’s debut dropping to #16 and Sarah Slaton’s latest jumping up from #17 in NOV, due largely to being a featured artist for DEC on Indie 102.3 and getting added to regular rotation on 105.5 the Colorado Sound.

New artists to watch for include Blakk Mantra, whose debut got added and made it to HOT rotation at 105.5 The Colorado Sound for December and former Chimney Choir co-founder Kris Drickey who struck out on her own with State Change (not avail on YouTube)

COLORADO TOP 30 NOVEMBER 2020

December 1, 2020 -EDIT DEC 02 2020 … Before I posted up yesterday, I forgot to link the releases to their respective YOUTUBE location.  That’s now done.  Enjoy.

By now it should come as no surprise the incredible success of Nathaniel Rateliff‘s solo LP And It’s Still Alright.  Not only did it bounce back to #1 this month, but I’m 100% positive it will be #1 for 2020.

New Artist to Watch For, Dafna, a student at CU Boulder, DEBUTS at #2 thanks mostly to it being the most played Colorado release at Indie 102.3 this past month. Colorado supergroup Del Shamen, featuring members of the Subdudes, Hot Rize/E-Town and Firefall debuts at #4 with their self-titled debut.  Debuting at #8, Ron Miles Rainbow Sign is the first JAZZ album to land at #1 in a WEEKLY TOP 5 (wk end 11/28)

Those of us in the arts are the epitome of “small business.” My hope is that you’ll support musicians, artists, and local community radio this holiday season. Your support is deeply appreciated.  The Colorado Playlist is provided to member stations at no cost.  Your support will help to keep the program on the air as we enter its 15th season in 2021.

There are over 20 FM and LPFM (low power FM) non-commercial public/community and college stations in Colorado.  I track spins at 11 of those stations thanks to Spinitron, developed to benefit non-commercial public and educational terrestrial radio stations in the US, and offering advanced search functions for artists and agents.
