CP S12 EP08 2018

March 5, 2017 … this is the 9th Anniversary of the Colorado Playlist (formerly Colorado Sound) blogsite.  Can’t say thanks enough to those who come here often – knowing that people are coming by is enough for me to keep this going.

Colorado music history is filled with examples of musicians who moved here and stayed awhile and those who moved here and stayed permanently.  As well, the stories also extend to those who were born and/or raised here and moved on to other places.

John Oates has been a Colorado resident and participant in our statewide music scene for many years.  His Rocky Mountain rhythm section – Michael Jude and John Michel – also make up two thirds of the Vail based Brother’s Keeper.  John has also produced records for Colorado acts Paper Bird and David Starr, and released a single with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic.

The Wood Brothers are Chris and Oliver Wood.  They grew up in Boulder and left, separately.  It’s been reported that at their Red Rocks appearance in 2017 they said they lived in Boulder.  They may list Nashville as their current location, but Boulder will always be home to Chris and Oliver.

Both John Oates and The Wood Brothers have new albums out that I just added to the playlist, and included in this week’s MMMM.

CP S11 EP07 2018

Happy Monday Morning.  That video is the trailer for a documentary that was featured as part of the Boulder International Film Festival this weekend.  I managed to make the sold out showing on Sunday at the Longmont museum.

When the Magic Music album came out about two years ago now, it was not what many of us expected, or had hoped for – and the tell is in the movie itself.  A disclaimer is in order here: I was part of the promotion team for the Magic Music album.  The documentary really tells the story of the band and allows us to see what they could have (have?) become since they broke up in 1976.

Magic Music is an ingrained part of both the Boulder music scene of the 70s and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  They were, in fact, the first “jamband” in Colorado music history.  After successful reunion appearances at the Boulder Theater and the release of the documentary, Chris Daniels, aka “Spoons,” announced they are working on booking some shows in and around the area for this season.https://i0.wp.com/magicmusicband.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Front-Slider-Magic-Music-Oxford-Hotel-1973-blk-960x360.jpg

CO Playlist – S12 EP04 2018

It’s that time of the year when goat gets chewin like crazy.  I’m involved in two “Battle of the Bands” competitions entering the thick of the new year.  Last week I was a judge at the 1st of four events being put on by Bandwagon Magazine.  The finals are in March sometime.

Beginning Feb 14, Bolder Boulder’s annual Battle of the Bands begins at the new Oskar Blues tasting room in Boulder.  The winner gets to play the “main stage” at this year’s 40th Annual Bolder Boulder event and be included on the compilation.

COMING SOON the new release from Leftover Salmon.  I got to hand with the fellas Friday night at the Aggie in Fort Collins .. and they fired off a message to their manager to get me the first single from the album, “Show Me Something Higher,” in time for this coming episode of the show.  I’ll also have some fresh cuts from Rare Silk‘s catalog as well as new music from Instant Empire.
