Happy Monday Morning. That video is the trailer for a documentary that was featured as part of the Boulder International Film Festival this weekend. I managed to make the sold out showing on Sunday at the Longmont museum.
When the Magic Music album came out about two years ago now, it was not what many of us expected, or had hoped for – and the tell is in the movie itself. A disclaimer is in order here: I was part of the promotion team for the Magic Music album. The documentary really tells the story of the band and allows us to see what they could have (have?) become since they broke up in 1976.
Magic Music is an ingrained part of both the Boulder music scene of the 70s and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. They were, in fact, the first “jamband” in Colorado music history. After successful reunion appearances at the Boulder Theater and the release of the documentary, Chris Daniels, aka “Spoons,” announced they are working on booking some shows in and around the area for this season.
