CP S15 EP21 2021

Monday May 24, 2021 – In a recent interview, Erin Roberts aka Porlolo, stated “I write and record songs I know aren’t good for the radio.” There’s only one problem with that statement: she’s rockin’ Colorado independent public and college radio right now, with significant spins from Indie 102.3 and 105.5 The Colorado Sound + The Colorado Playlist’s statewide network. Check out the rest of the weekly TOP 5 below.

There’s a new Colorado focused hip-hop show about to hit Salida’s KHEN. Salida-based artists Mark and Amber Cano are not only expecting a baby in September, they will be hosting a new show there that Mark says will focus on “…Colorado rap, hip hop and RnB artists.”

Middle Class Rock Star is a podcast hosted by  Andy Sydow.  Every week or so I feature a 7 to 8 minute segment featuring  a conversation Andy has with some of our scene’s top music makers and industry personalities.  This week’s guest is Leftover Salmon co-founder Drew Emmitt.

CP S15 EP20 2021

Monday May 17, 2021 – You know how you take a few days off, but it takes twice as many days to actually catch up? Yep … Last week’s visits included KLZR Westcliffe and KHEN Salida. The week prior included a run out to Durango and a visit with KRZA Alamosa.

As I’ve made my way around the state the past month, the conversations I had mostly were about Colorado music and how to build audience. Locally produced non-comms are committed to presenting music from our state. If you’re a Colorado based band or musician reach out to them and find the venues and events in our smaller cities and towns that crave live music. There is plenty of opportunity in our state.

To find out how you can get your music into the hands of independent programmers around the state, email rockymountainmusicnetwork@gmail.com.

LIVE MUSIC IN SOUTH WESTERN COLORADO!

CP S12 EP44 2018

Monday Nov 19, 2018 – This is my pre-Thanksgiving post.  As my girlfriend and I sat and watched news coverage of the California fires this past week, I couldn’t help but think about our own state and just how easily it would be for that to happen to us here.  Natural disasters destroy everything.

One of the reasons we launched Rocky Mountain Music Relief a year ago was so that when natural disasters affect the musicians in our own region we’d have a way to help out.   While our mission statement declares that we exist to help out musicians in the Rocky Mountain region (Colorado mostly) – I hope we can all contribute to helping those in need in California.

I’ll have big news coming in Q1 2019, but let me tease you a bit.  Next year when I thank stations for airing this program there will very likely be one more.  KFFR (Winter Park) has acknowledged they love the show and want to air it.  They’re hoping for early 2019.  Keep your fingers crossed.  No deal is a done deal until the show is added and aired.

Thank you to KRFC (Fort Collins), KJAC (Greeley/Front Range), KDNK (Carbondale), KOTO (Telluride), KSUT (Ignacio/Durango), KLZR (Westcliffe), KCMJ (Colorado Springs), KAFM (Grand Junction), KOYC (Pueblo), KZYR (Vail) and KHEN (Salida).

These stations reach out across 24FM frequencies in the state – bringing Colorado music to their  listeners 52 hours a week.  I hope you’ll support them with your financial contribution.

At Bohemian Foundation, our focus is on building community …by coming together to create and enjoy music.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

The environment is on everyone’s mind.  “Nature’s Way” was originally written, recorded and released by the band Spirit in 1969. Songwriter Randy California recorded several versions of the song over the years, quipping that he never quite got it right.  Now, it’s Firefall’s turn.  Bassist Mark Andes an original member of Spirit, sings lead and is joined by  featured guests Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles and John McFee of the Doobie Brothers.

I expect a new album from Firefall in the coming months.
