Colorado Playlist S11 EP24

You’ll find the new Yawpers single below.  Their new album is not due out until later this summer, but the single gives us an invigorating peak into what will undoubtedly be their finest yet – produced by Tommy Stinson (Bash and Pop, the Replacements).

What happened to the weekend?  Yep .. no idea.  Last thing I remember musically was emceeing for Dressy Bessy last Thursday night at the Bohemian Nights Thursday Night Live in Old Town Fort Collins.  Fun in the sun, and a drop top sports car leads to a lot of fun on the open road – and listening to HOURS of nothing but Colorado music.  Here’s a bit of the drive leaving Empire on my way over Berthoud Pass on Sunday … some Leslie Tom and some Brent Cowles on the stereo.

If you’re thinking, “man, Chris is late getting this up today,” you’re right — overslept by 2 hours.  I blame the second beer yesterday.  Yes, I’m a football freak.  I watch just about any game on tv.  But what the Patriots did yesterday was BEYOND amazing.

In this week’s MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) I put a repeat up from late in 2016, that we did not get a chance to vote on … so this week’s new music picks include tracks from Michael Hornbuckle, Patrick Dethlefs, Spiral Cell and the Steve Law Band, who we broke open a new track from this week following the success that he had in last week’s poll.  New cuts from Stella Luce and Russ Hopkins are not included in this week’s MMMM due to lack of an embeddable file.

In last week’s MMMM, the Steve Law Band and Shaley Scott pulled the greatest number of votes, with each winning out with those who voted … and in a surprise, Tennis is the first act to score a 100% DELETE.

New releases hitting my desk this week from Selina Albright (soul / r&b), Gasoline Lollipops (rock, alt-country), and Erik Applegate (jazz).

Colorado Playlist S10 EP47 DEC 2017

This is the last post of 2016.  I will not post next Monday, the day after Christmas.  If you haven’t done so yet, pls vote for your favorite albums and eps of 2016 at AND THE NOMINEES ARE! and the TOP 25 Videos of 2016.

mr-and-mrs-goat-2015Thank you for an incredible 2016.  As you may know, this has been a very bittersweet year in the “house of goat.”  Mrs Goat passed away on Feb 2, just as I sold the name “The Colorado Sound” to 105.5FM KJAC… and subsequently at the same time I was invited to go back on the air as a part time air talent at one of the best “rock” stations I’ve ever had the pleasure of jocking for, 105.5 The Colorado Sound.  I cannot thank my friends at KJAC enough for this incredible opportunity.

I, and some of my closest friends, made a promise to our friend Pattie that the music would not stop… that I would continue to produce this show, and I would continue to play our songs out live… both activities that Pattie helped to forge and support throughout the past seventeen years.  Neither this show nor the band GOATZ! would exist without her involvement and support.  Pattie suffered a massive brain seizure on Dec 23 last year, due to melanoma cancer that metastasized in her brain, stomach and lungs.

The first song I played this week is one she wrote the lyrics for, Once Upon A Snowflake.  She and our grand daughter used to tell the story to each other, and it turned into a song five years ago.   Thanks to our friend John McVey at Coupe Studios (Boulder) for producing it.

My wish for this season is that you will share some of our incredible LOCAL music with your family and friends, and support the Colorado musicians by purchasing hard physical band merch and music and giving it as gifts.  It’s not too late.  For cds, visit Albums on the Hill in Boulder or Twist and Shout in Denver … two great stores owned and operated by a couple of great guys who love our scene.

oskar-blues-no backgroundOskar Blues Fooderies!  I won’t post again until Jan 2, but I hope you’ll come hang out with me at Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids in Longmont on New Year’s Eve … Kerry Pastine & the Crime Scene is playing… and if you prefer a bit more twang to your rock and country, check out Halden Wofford & the Hi*Beams at the Original Grill and Brew in Lyons.

Colorado Playlist S10 EP45 DEC 2016

I don’t often get a chance to go out for an entire day to see a batch of new up and coming bands – unless I’m working the event.  Sunday I spent the day at Hodi’s Half Note in Fort Collins to see friends, and to immerse myself in seven hours of music from 10 bands, only three of which I knew anything about.

The event was the annual Scene Magazine “Fresh Talent Showcase,” a judged event that awarded the winner time in a recording studio, along with a pro grade photo shoot, a pro level consulting session with Yellowbright, and a slot on the Scene Magazine stage at the 2017 Arise Festival in Loveland next August.

Write Minded took home the top prize, but all of the bands brought game … Congrats to everyone who participated.

Good Monday morning! The Broncos won in a WILD fashion, and the sun is shining.  And in this week’s MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting) we have music to KEEP or DELETE from new scene honky-tonkers 5 & Dimer’s, indie-alt rock from Homebody, award winning r&b/dance from SuCh and blues from the Catfish Kray Band with Lady Larea Edwards.

Last week’s titles didn’t generate much in the way of interest it seems – with one of the lowest overall vote totals of the past couple of months.  I don’t know if we were all just burnt out from the elections or not, but I’m hoping you decide to re-engage this week.  With that said, Faceman’s new single Heavy Heart was the crowd favorite generating 92% KEEP IT votes … the rest barely got out of the gate last week.

In the Whale: 10:00PM

MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEETING

I conceived of this idea as a way for you to discover some of the new music I played on the show, and to give you the chance to let me know which of the tracks you like, and think I should keep in rotation.  I get a lot of feedback from fans about what’s liked .. and what isn’t.

In order to be included in the MMMM poll, the band/artist must have an embeddable file available on SoundCloud, BandCamp (my favorite), Reverbnation or YouTube.

It’s not a competition.  It’s just a gauge of how well you like the songs I added this week.
