CP S14 EP33 2020

Monday AUG 24 2020LATE!  Sorry.  Normally I’m done with this by 9AM. I got caught up researching djs around the state, at over 20 radio stations, who might play some Colorado music on their shows.  It’s been a busy couple of days. I’ve managed to document over 50 djs individually who have been known to program Colorado music from time to time.

NEW music this week in the MMMM = Sarah Christine, Chadzilla feat. Tanya Shylock, and Daniel Rodriguez.   The new release from Jayme Stone, Awake, hits the TOP 5 at CO radio this week while the Subdudes Lickskillet makes the TOP 5 at RootsMusicReport.com.

In the mood for live music?  There seems to be more and more of it taking places as we figure out the best way to do things.  Of course that does mean wearing masks when in public places and maintaining social distancing. The Fort Collins Musicians Association (FOCOMA) has figured out a way to celebrate over a decade of FOCOMX and NOCO music events.  I’m happy to support this  year’s FOCOMX – A Digital Retrospective.

DULCETTERRA, AN ONLINE INTERACTIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL, CONFERENCE AND SONGWRITING CAMP. Watch live on Monday, September 21st, 2020, from 12PM until 12AM Mountain Standard Time.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Jayme’s new album “Awake, Awake” is hitting CO radio, landing in the TOP 5 most played this past week.  Here’s the title track.

BOY THIS IS TOUGH – Pls Support

“Between April 1 and July 31, Colorado’s music industry lost 8,327 jobs and $344.6 million in sales revenue, according to a report released this week by Denver Arts & Venues. This represents 51% of total employment in the industry statewide and 24% of its annual sales revenue, wrote Colorado State University researcher Michael Seman.

Denver took the hardest hit, with losses in the metro region estimated at 4,525 jobs and $213.7 million in sales revenue — or more than half of all jobs in the region’s music industry and 25% of its annual sales revenue. The majority of these losses at both the state and regional level are in the “musicians, managers and agents” and “live events” sectors of the industry, the report said.

And this is after only six months.”

This article from The Know/Denver Post hit me particularly hard this morning.  I’m a “old timer” in the Colorado music scene.  I’ve been here since the 70s – doing what I do – music and radio.  In fact, music and radio is all I do and all I’ve done since the late 90s when I closed down my previous family owned/operated business.

RADIO can’t replace what we’ve lost.  Not even close.  However, as a fan one thing we can all do is support locally produced independent non-commercial public/community and college radio stations.  There are over 20 such stations in Colorado today. That’s where most Colorado music is heard today.

Today, the Colorado Playlist is broadcast by 12 stations and is heard over 24FM frequencies 58 hours a week in Colorado. AND I NEED YOUR HELP. I borrowed heavily to keep Colorado music on the airwaves, since my prime sources of revenue are now gone. At some point I need to generate revenue to pay back the loans and pay the bills.

I’ve reduced my normal ad-support rates by 50% for COVID affected businesses. Want your business mentioned statewide? Email me at coloradoplaylist@gmail.com for information.

If you’d care to make a donation pls do so via PayPal at coloradoplaylist@gmail.com or at Chrisk-2 on Venmo.

Sincerely and with Love,

The Summer of No Music: Loss of concerts makes Denver question its cultural identity

CP S14 EP30 2020

Monday AUG 03 2020 –  Cary Morin’s new album, Dockside Saints, isn’t yet officially available for mass consumption via Spotify or YouTube but that doesn’t mean it’s not getting some love from radio where it jumps to #1 this week in the statewide radio airplay chart.  Charlie Stevens new self titled release (serviced by Rocky Mountain Music Network LLC) makes its debut this week at #3, while Down Time extends its TOP five position another week.

The Video Pick of the Week I Can’t Breathe (Again) Feat. Wil Guice, Chy Reco, Ramond, A Meazy (at bottom of post) is a tribute to the BLM movement.  Created by some of Denver’s top hip-hop producers and emcees, in a state of mourning for black lives taken by police, the video is a stunning local reminder of what we’ve seen on the streets and in the news this summer.

Live music is alive and doing as reasonably well as we might expect during COVID.  A long interior drive this weekend took us into Walden, Winter Park, Grand Lake and Estes Park.  Grand Lake and Estes were of course jumpin.  We heard several acoustic acts singing hits from various small stages.

My friends at the Mishawaka have concerts on the calendar with the likes of the Yawpers (AUG 29) and Patti Fiasco (AUG 28).

Every night at 6pm, Denver’s Swallow Hill is streaming live shows of Colorado and national artists on their Facebook page!  This week’s schedule is: https://swallowhillmusic-eb.ticketfly.com/calendar/

  • Aug 3: Cate Downey
  • Aug 4: Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer
  • Aug 5: Ross James
  • Aug 6: John McCutcheon
  • Aug 7: Justin Roberts
  • Aug 8: Bret Billings w Greg Schochet & Halden Wofford
  • Aug 9: Taarka

I am happy to support  FOCOMA (Fort Collins Musician Association)  Drive and Jive – a weekly series showcasing some of Northern Colorado’s popular acts.

Please help Rocky Mountain Music Relief feed musicians.  Donations of $15 or more receive a #COmusic COVID mask as a thank you. Proceeds will benefit food needy musicians and their families. Please make sure to provide your address so we can mail your mask.
