CP S15:EP42 2021

Monday Oct 18, 2021 – The first task when I get up and pour coffee on Monday morning is to sit down and write out the Monday morning blog post. Typically, I scan headlines and my FB newsfeed.

Today’s feed was a sad reminder that a) COVID is still killing people, even those who have been vaccinated, and b) that despite COVID, “…we think this lasts forever … it doesn’t; forgive, love and be good to one another.”

That quote was the last line in a post by Colorado Music Hall of Fame musician and educator Chris Daniels, informing us that veteran Kings bassist Kevin “Bro” Lege is in the ICU at St. Anthony’s, “…getting amazing care …but the outlook is not great.”

Chris didn’t indicate the reason for “Bro’s” condition, but we do know that former Secretary of State Colin Powell passed away last night from complications related to COVID.

As Chris Daniels reminds us, “…we think this lasts forever …it doesn’t; forgive, love and be good to one another.”

CP S15 EP13 2021

Monday March 29, 2021 – It’s been estimated that there are over fourteen thousand songwriters in Colorado who are registered with one of the top three performance rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC). That is all to say there is a LOT of music in our state.

Over the past 30 days I tracked radio airplay for over two hundred individual titles, singles, EP or LP. I will be publishing the March TOP 30 in a few days. Of the over two hundred titles I tracked airplay for, ninety received at least one play at one of the thirteen stations I monitor weekly.

Not much movement in the weekly TOP 5 with Nathaniel Rateliff and A.J. Fullerton looking more and more like the TOP 2 albums leading into the spring. In the meantime, A.J. Fullerton is sitting at #1 in Colorado album titles this week at RootsMusicReport.com.

Featured station of the week = Four Corners Radio, KSJD (Cortez)

CP S15 EP12 2021

MONDAY MARCH 22, 2021 – In Colorado music history — that’s something you hear at the top of each hour of the show. This week it was Elton John’s Philadelphia Freedom that was highlighted in HR1.

Elton was a regular at Caribou Ranch Recording Studio in the early 70s. His 4th #1 hit was written during an eight day recording session for Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy, but did not appear on that album.

Instead, it appears on his 1977 Greatest Hits album. He wrote the song for Billie Jean King while she and her team, the Philadelphia Freedoms, were in Denver for a tennis league playoff series. More at Colorado Music Experience.

You ever try to learn something new on the fly? WordPress decided to get rid of the classic editor I’ve been using for 12 years. LMAO. This hurts a little, since I’ve resisted using the newer format in favor of what I’ve known. Oh well.

Let’s try something new this week. Instead of a poll asking if you like a song or not, beginning this week the question will be, “What’s Your Favorite This Week?” See following the Monday Morning Music Meeting (MMMM).

New music this week from Pie Lombardi, Wheelchair Sportscamp, Aaron Bibelhauser & FY5, and Kind Dub f. Sarah Joelle.
