CP S12 EP46 2018

Monday Dec 3, 2018 –There is NO MMMM this week. The couple of debuts I played had no embeds, being so new.  Instead, I direct your attention to the  BEST OF 2018 POLLS.

That said, both the String Cheese Incident and the Motet put new singles out to radio.  The Motet’s Lyle Divinsky is the featured vocalist on the String Cheese Incident track. Taylor Scott shared a new single from his upcoming album, and the Symbols have a new album I recently reviewed.

One of the tremendous musical activities I was re-introduced to this year is the musical theater.  My girlfriend got us season tickets to the Bug Theatre in Denver. We also attended a couple of plays at the Curious Theatre, that were not musicals.

I hadn’t been to much in the way of theater over the past 40 years. I grew up in the theater and had legit aspirations as a high school senior.  I went into radio instead. #nocomplaints

My main take-a-way is there are some tremendously talented and skilled people acting on those stages, and some for whom it’s a genuine hobby.  Local theatre is much like the local live music scene.  It’s also another avenue for exploring music that many of us ignore.

I highly encourage a night at the theatre. Not every show will be great, but you’ll truly have an enjoyable time at every show.

NOW PLEASE GO PICK YOUR FAVORITES OF 2018.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

I was enamored by this prog-rock band earlier this year.  They released this video mid-November, but their EP is up for vote in the CP BEST OF 2018.  Digital Myle once again producing some of the best videos in the market.  Echoes in Reverie started as a side project for local music veterans Rachel Irvin, Bryan Stacks, and Luke Mott. What started as a weekly jam session, quickly became a musical ritual.

Monday Nov 26, 2018 – Did you eat too much?  Over the weekend since last Thursday I read we gain over 2lbs at this time of year. I’m still in recovery mode myself. Best way I know of mitigating that is to go out and experience all that Colorado has to offer at this time of year – including, but not exclusively, Colorado music.  There are some great shows coming up over the next few weeks.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

As I scoured the inter-webs this past few weeks I came across a review of a “new” player in the scene = Davey Daydream.  He’s not really new.  He moved here to study at CU Boulder from NJ in 2008.  Formerly a bass player and lead singer in bands that did everything from straight ahead pop-punk to experimental prog-rock and a coffee shop singer songwriter, he’s included DJing and producing with elements of EDM and Hip-hop into his repertoire.    A breakout show in Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins could set Davey up as an artist to watch for in 2019 and beyond.

CP S12 EP44 2018

Monday Nov 19, 2018 – This is my pre-Thanksgiving post.  As my girlfriend and I sat and watched news coverage of the California fires this past week, I couldn’t help but think about our own state and just how easily it would be for that to happen to us here.  Natural disasters destroy everything.

One of the reasons we launched Rocky Mountain Music Relief a year ago was so that when natural disasters affect the musicians in our own region we’d have a way to help out.   While our mission statement declares that we exist to help out musicians in the Rocky Mountain region (Colorado mostly) – I hope we can all contribute to helping those in need in California.

I’ll have big news coming in Q1 2019, but let me tease you a bit.  Next year when I thank stations for airing this program there will very likely be one more.  KFFR (Winter Park) has acknowledged they love the show and want to air it.  They’re hoping for early 2019.  Keep your fingers crossed.  No deal is a done deal until the show is added and aired.

Thank you to KRFC (Fort Collins), KJAC (Greeley/Front Range), KDNK (Carbondale), KOTO (Telluride), KSUT (Ignacio/Durango), KLZR (Westcliffe), KCMJ (Colorado Springs), KAFM (Grand Junction), KOYC (Pueblo), KZYR (Vail) and KHEN (Salida).

These stations reach out across 24FM frequencies in the state – bringing Colorado music to their  listeners 52 hours a week.  I hope you’ll support them with your financial contribution.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

The environment is on everyone’s mind.  “Nature’s Way” was originally written, recorded and released by the band Spirit in 1969. Songwriter Randy California recorded several versions of the song over the years, quipping that he never quite got it right.  Now, it’s Firefall’s turn.  Bassist Mark Andes an original member of Spirit, sings lead and is joined by  featured guests Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles and John McFee of the Doobie Brothers.

I expect a new album from Firefall in the coming months.

MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEETING
