CP S12 EP09 2018

Locally owned and operated regional music publication Marquee Magazine is celebrating 15 Years in print.

I can say that over the past fifteen years it has been a “bible” for me as I search out what my friends in Colorado music are listening to and going to see.  Congratulations to Brian and Jessica Johnson and Senior Contributing Writer  Tim Dwenger.

From their website:  “The Marquee strives to be the Farmer’s Almanac of the regional music scene — providing readers with facts, tid-bits, in-depth feature stories and a Calendar section that is unparalleled on Colorado’s Front Range, covering every live music venue from large venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre to small clubs and coffee shops. Get in Touch…

Hellova run you guys.  Much love.

News about a couple of regional record stores broke over the past week:  Absolute Vinyl Records & Stereo in Boulder is closing its doors at the end of March, after almost a decade selling “…close to 100,000 records and well over 2,000 pieces of stereo equipment,” according to Doug Gaddy, who co-owns the shop with his wife Annie.

Recydled Records LP in Longmont has moved from its former location at 3rd and Main in downtown Longmont, to a larger place on the west side of the city on S. Hover.

CP S11 EP07 2018

Happy Monday Morning.  That video is the trailer for a documentary that was featured as part of the Boulder International Film Festival this weekend.  I managed to make the sold out showing on Sunday at the Longmont museum.

When the Magic Music album came out about two years ago now, it was not what many of us expected, or had hoped for – and the tell is in the movie itself.  A disclaimer is in order here: I was part of the promotion team for the Magic Music album.  The documentary really tells the story of the band and allows us to see what they could have (have?) become since they broke up in 1976.

Magic Music is an ingrained part of both the Boulder music scene of the 70s and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  They were, in fact, the first “jamband” in Colorado music history.  After successful reunion appearances at the Boulder Theater and the release of the documentary, Chris Daniels, aka “Spoons,” announced they are working on booking some shows in and around the area for this season.https://i0.wp.com/magicmusicband.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Front-Slider-Magic-Music-Oxford-Hotel-1973-blk-960x360.jpg

CO PLAYLIST – S12 EP06 2018

I don’t often share an older cut in the weekly MMMM (Monday Morning Music Meeting).  This week, I “found” YouTube audio of “Move On” from Opie Gone Bad, who were one of the top local acts in the region for over a decade.  So I included it.

This week’s Video of the Week is included in the MMMM as a new cut for you to vote on.

FY5 has been and is one of my favorite new-acoustic-bluegrass acts since they emerged on the scene over a decade ago, after the Youngbergs (Aaron & Erin) and Finders (Mike & Amy) met in Iowa, and the Finders (pronounced Finnders)  moved to Northern Colorado.  That meeting formed the basis for Finders & Youngberg, which evolved into FY5 with the addition of outstanding fiddle player Ryan Drickey and mandolinist Rich Zimmerman.

Their new album, The Way These Things Go showcases some of the most vibrant songwriting and ensemble performances in the genre in our area, and the impeccable production by Aaron “AA” Youngberg makes it one of the most enjoyable road trip additions in the car this year.
