Every week I receive a fairly large amount of new music to evaluate for the show. I’d say most of what I get makes it on-air at least once. I don’t know if that’s because I’m only receiving the cream of the crop, or if we’ve just become that good in Colorado. I like to think it’s a bit of both.
I’m often found cruising Facebook, scanning for items of information I can use in the news and notes section of the show, or just information about artists in general to talk about. Recently, I saw a post for a show that got my attention, not because of the headliner, but because I mistook the message and thought a different band was having a cd release party… whereupon I immediately contacted that band about their new cd. Of course, to my chagrin, I discovered I had made a mistake. I was subsequently turned onto a new artist … whose cd release party it really was … and was told that she’d done very well on YouTube, with 24,081 subscribers and 2,399,645 video views, and that she sells out the rare show she does locally. So, with that background – may I please introduce to you Miss Elise Lieberth with our video of the week selection.

Thank you for all the support that I really needed in my absence last week. As is sometimes the case in life, baby alligators (rattlers if you prefer) jump up and grab ya by the balls and make you lay down for a few days. LOL. That said – it was a great week to kick back, reflect and listen to some new albums, which I’m actually doing right this moment in preparation for next week’s show. If you’re not hip yet do check out The Whale & the Sea by Josh Dillard, and A Boy & His Kite by, well, A Boy & His Kite aka Dave Wilton. Absolutely gorgeous albums, both.

2013 marks my 40th year dj’ing in one way or another. Officially – professionally – I’ve been in radio since my first paycheck in 1977, so I have four more years before I celebrate my official 40th anniversary on the airwaves. But, it was 1973, as a graduating high school senior, that I first laid a needle to a record for the purposes of making people smile and dance. Now of course, in my world it’s all digital – but I digress. You know that old saying, “never judge a book by its cover?” Well, never judge a music lover by the hat he wears LOL. I may love my cowboy hats, but you’re as likely to see me bopping to some hip-hop as well as some authentic roots country – unless you’re screaming or being outright violent… that’s where the line gets drawn for me. And here in Colorado, a place I’ve called home most of my life now, there’s more than enough great music of all flavors to enjoy – regardless of the hat you wear (or not).
Congratulations to KRFC on their 10th Anniversary. No station plays more music from here in the state than they do. See their website at www.krfcfm.org for information about upcoming celebratory events.

CHANGES IN REPORTING PROCEDURES When you look at the Station By Station listing you’ll notice something new. [titles reported =___]. I spend a few days every month scouring every single playlist at some stations, while others provide me a list of current titles they played in the reporting period. So, for instance, for the Jan spins chart, I scoured any and all records released from Nov 2011 thru Jan 2013. Next month, I’ll only look for titles that came out from Dec 2011 thru Feb 2013. You’ll not only see what records are getting the most love at a station, but also how many “current year” releases are getting played. Props to KRFC and Open Air 1340 for being the #1 and #2 station respectively in number of current titles getting aired.
