Colorado Playlist S11 EP25

SOME OF THE BEST OF 2017 – SO FAR

We’re officially six months into 2017.  I’ve added over 500 song titles to my potential airplay collection so far this year, or the equivalent of about 50 albums.  I’ve taken in more than that, but given the time constraints of a 2 hour radio show, where I can at best program 13 songs an hour, not everything I’ve taken in makes the cut for airplay consideration.

**NOTE** Due to a programming snafu, the wrong episode of the CP was aired Sunday on 105.5 The Colorado Sound

A couple of DEBUT cuts made it into the show this week – one from Retrofette, who won the 2017 Westword Music Showcase Award for Best Pop band … and one from Instant Empire, that I’ve anxiously been waiting for, for some time now.

You’ll find the new Yawpers single below.  Their new album is not due out until later this summer, but the single gives us an invigorating peak into what will undoubtedly be their finest yet – produced by Tommy Stinson (Bash and Pop, the Replacements).

What happened to the weekend?  Yep .. no idea.  Last thing I remember musically was emceeing for Dressy Bessy last Thursday night at the Bohemian Nights Thursday Night Live in Old Town Fort Collins.  Fun in the sun, and a drop top sports car leads to a lot of fun on the open road – and listening to HOURS of nothing but Colorado music.  Here’s a bit of the drive leaving Empire on my way over Berthoud Pass on Sunday … some Leslie Tom and some Brent Cowles on the stereo.

I had the pleasure of hosting the first of three Wellington Mainstreet Summer Concert shows I am responsible for booking this summer.  Matt Skinner Band and My Blue Sky proved to be the perfect fits for the inaugural event funded by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs Mainstreet Program, the Bohemian Foundation, and local businesses .

The next one is July 15 with Grateful Dead tribute band Switchman Sleeping, and my band Goatz!

My Blue Sky will be the headliner at our Annual Colorado Playlist Anniversary show at the “Mish” in August.

If you’re in NoCO this week I’ll be hosting Dressy Bessy at the Bohemian Nights Thursday Night Live show in Old Town Square Fort Collins.
