I produce the Colorado Playlist on Tuesdays/Wednesdays for airplay Saturday-Friday. Every Friday is my music discovery day, where I scour Spotify and YouTube for new additions to Colorado 2025 100.
When Colorado 2025 gets to 100 titles, it’s one in and one out. Seven new adds this week = seven titles dropped. A note: not everything I add here makes it to the weekly show.
NEW ADDS THIS WEEK Big Gigantic – Fluorescence (EDM/Hip-hop) This is dancefloor mania! It goes in my workout soundtrack immediately. Big gigantic energy! (not yet on YouTube, as of May 9).
Brendan Forrest – Young and High (Americana, folk) The forests of the San Juans have a sound named Brendan Forrest (no pun intended).
The Hawthorne Experience – In2 (Rock) They could just as easily call themselves the Chameleon Brotherhood for the diversity of styles they explore from surf-rock to funk, sometimes within one song. In2 shows echoes of the psychedelic folk-rock of the mid-sixties with flourishes of jamband funk and rap.
Hunter James and the Titanic – Weekend Holds (Rock) It’s a bit of a cliche to compare bands like this to Fleetwood Mac, but that is exactly where they fit. And kudos to Hunter James; quickly emerging as my producer of the year.
Manic Focus – Lay Me Down (EDM) When your city is at the top of the EDM world, and EDM is at the top of what your city listens to, what you bring better be good to stand out. Manic brings it again.
Squeaky Feet– The Detective (Rock) Berklee graduates insane musicians. This is insane. Elements of metal, prog-rock, jazz fusion, and groove. Lots and lots and lots of groove. In the pocket – groove. Inspired by King Crimson + Rush + Weather Report + Dopapod.
White Rose Motor Oil – Hit In the Face! (VI) (Americana, cowpunk) WRMO has redefined and owns Colorado cowpunk, and squarely hits you in the face with it! (pun intended).
