VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Many people who live in our area today may not remember that Jill Sobule grew up in Denver in the 60s and 70s, and attended CU in Boulder.  It was only after she left the area to pursue music professionally that she had a hit in the 90s’ with I Kissed A Girl (no, not the more recent hit by the same name).  Since then, Jill has become known internationally as an exceptional folk artist — though her newest hit may not actually show her in that light.

CP S12 EP34 2018

MONDAY SEPT 10, 2018 –Happy Monday.  As seems to be somewhat normal over the years, we’re in a bit of a lull for new releases right now.  And it’s a great time for a vacation.  So I’m taking one.  I don’t see it as likely that I’ll publish a post next Monday the 17th since I’ll be on the road somewhere between Denver and Zion in Utah.

The biggest news of the week broke on FB over the weekend when Andy Palmer announced an  “indefinite hiatus” from making music to focus on things closer to home – and heart – family and his children.   In the meantime, he’s set to release his newest video, produced by  John Grigsby, for “The Switch” – the lead single from his last album.  The video has already garnered an official invitation to the 2018  Westfield International Film Festival.  Watch for the video here in a couple of weeks.

In his post Andy let us know that “All that is to say that this fool is dialing down gigging in place of opening up to other pursuits. Seems fitting that I’ll wrap up this run on October 20, my wedding day 11 short years ago, at The Walnut Room, a Denver venue I’ve loved since day one and which has always warmly welcomed me in.”

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Many folks today don’t know, or don’t remember, that acclaimed FOLK (yes, I said folk) artist Jill Sobule is originally from Denver, and that her mom still lives and works here.  I’m pretty stoked to have new music from Jill I’m sharing this week – from a video she released in June off her upcoming new album Nostalgia Kills.  The new single however is not “folky” at all, but leans with a snap-crackle-pop of the sort we would have expected following her 1995 self-titled sophomore release that produced her biggest hit, I Kissed A Girl.

CP S12 EP33 2018

MONDAY SEPT 3, 2018 – Happy Labor Day.  We’re getting pretty close to the end of the 2018 release year, which runs November 2017 through Oct 2018.  So we have about three months until I begin tabulating your votes for the Best of show at the end of the year and the Fan Poll for the year.  By the time we get to the end of the “new model” year, I will have shared nearly 300 new tracks with you from here in Colorado.

Contenders for this year’s BEST OF include new and or upcoming new titles from mainstays and obvious contenders such as DeVotchka, Gregory Alan Isakov and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats as well as up and comers  like Oxeye Daisey and Gingerbomb.  Your votes matter, so don’t forget to let me know whether to KEEP or DELETE in the MMMM below.

Debuts this week include new and/or upcoming new releases from alt-rockers Augustus and CITRA – and Americana/alt-country from Matt Rouch & the Noise Upstairs.  There’s also a new cut from the previously debuted David Starr albumSouth and West.”

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

NEW ARTIST ALERT:  well, she’s not exactly a new artist, but she is relatively new to Colorado.  Turns out award winning NYC vagabond musician/painter Elli Perry has at least temporarily settled down in Fort Collins.  The music video for her song “Burn The River Down” won the award for Best Sound at the New York Independent Film Festival in May.  She’s been in Fort Collins since February according to sources there, and it’s rumored she may be interested in staying a while… as in set down some roots in our Colorado music scene.

NEW TIMES UPDATE

  • 88.9FM KRFC Fort Collins has moved the show from Saturday night at 8PM to Thursday mornings from 6-8AM.
  • KSUT Ignacio/Durango has added HR1 of the show and moved the time from 7PM Saturday nights to 10PM-12AM Saturday nights
