The Colorado Sound – V4 EP40 Oct 2012

LOL … I almost forgot to post this week’s playlist… only thing made me remember was a post or two on my facebook page thanking me for playing some of this week’s new music from Boa & the Constrictors and Eef .. two of the new blues records this month.  This time of year is one of the most exciting for new releases, and this week was no exception.  The Boa & the Constrictors record was an advance, so I can’t share anything from that with you, sorry to say… as is the new Beats Noir! record, “Where the Sun Goes Down,” and I’m With Her‘s “Songs We Said Goodbye To,” which is due to drop officially on Nov 2.

On another note, I’m always looking for great recordings from the past and happen to have come across one I’m hoping to add to the library soon — from an old friend Victoria Woodworth .. check out this video from a recording done at Caribou Ranch in 1980.

News Notes and Spins – October 1 2012

EDIT 10/7/2012:  Welcome Radio 1190 back into the mix …. they got their Sept spins to us a bit late, but we’ll take em 🙂 … see station spins below.

Happy autumn.  We are now about 90 days away from posting our annual Best Of the Year poll – generated by the top scoring records of the year with the results from polling regional radio djs, music journalists and assorted Colorado music fans.  I would imagine we’ll see a couple dozen new releases before we close things off on Dec 1 — so if you’re in the process of getting an album out, now is the time.

Speaking of new releases – watch for Opie Gone Christmas #4 to come out this fall – Jake Schroeder called me to say that they were working feverishly on getting it done soon – and it will include the incomparable Dianne Reeves, Chris Daniels and others.

Happy B-day Chris Daniels who turned 60 on Sept 29 …

…Jake also let me know that 99.5FM The Mountain (KQMT) has canceled Mountain Homegrown, the wonderful Colorado music program he hosted the past 9 years.  The station cited budget reasons for discontinuing the program that was on every Monday night at 10PM.

KDUR has a new music director, Stella Dickson.  Reach out to her and say hi.  KDUR is very dedicated to airing Colorado music, so getting to know Stella is important <hint>

The Colorado Sound – V4 EP31 2012

This show is a bit of a special edition.  Bohemian Nights at New West Fest is the last major Colorado-music festival of the year right now, statewide.  It’s also become the premiere Colorado-music event of the year, bringing in the very very top tier of Colorado acts every year, as well as significant up and comers who have made themselves known to fans, and the industry experts who make up the talent advisory committee.      Over 90 acts will appear in 2012 .. I got 28 in the show.

NOTES

Check out Colorado Rock n Roll Volunteeers Present “Another Fire’s Burning.”  This is a very special benefit for the victims and firefighters involved in the Colorado Springs and Fort Collins fires.  The volunteers are among the most famous Colorado musicians of the past 40 years and includes: Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield, Poco), Jeff Hanna (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), John Magnie (the Subdudes), Todd Park Mohr (Big Head Todd & the Monsters), Jock Bartley (Firefall), Jonny5 (Flobots), Kenny Passarelli (Joe Walsh, Elton John), Nathan Maxwell (Flogging Molly, Bunny Gang), Johnny Hickman (Cracker, Hickman-Dalton Gang), Jim Dalton (Railbenders, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers), Brian Nevin (Big Head Todd & the Monsters), Jeremy Lawton (Big Head Todd & the Monsters), Hazel Miller, Chris DanielsChristian Teele (E-town), Matt Morris, Rebecca Folsom, Freddie Gowdy (Freddi-Henchi Band), Jake Schroeder (Opie Gone Bad), Brad Corrigan (Dispatch), John Macy, Linda Storey and others …

SHEL got one of their videos on CMT Pure, beginning Aug 14.  It’s called “Freckles” and it was shot in Fort Collins.  It’s also a self produced video that included some local folk.

Rob Drabkin released his first official video this weekend also – “Feeling Good Again.”
