CP S13 EP09 2019

Monday Feb 25 2019

If you missed it, here’s the entire interview with Eddie Roberts, a member of the band The New Mastersounds from England, a Colfax Ave resident the past four years, and a founding partner in the new Denver label Color Red.  Run time = 20 minutes.

Coming up in a future episode, Colorado Music Hall of Fame inductee as a member of Firefall – Rick Roberts joins me. Rick and former Zephyr guitarist Jock Bartley formed Firefall in 1974. Rick was also the voice of the Flying Burrito Brothers from 1970 to 1972 and recorded two albums under his own name, before forming Firefall.

New music hit this week from my own band, GOATZ!  Veronique Van Pelt, and Drew Ballantyne.  Fortunately, it was a light week because I still have releases to get to from Amy and the Peace Pipes, Bison Bone and others.

Last week’s MMMM was off the charts .. we set a new five year record for most visits and most views and most votes.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

I overheard someone say recently that he wished more bands would do protest songs. Intuit is a violin / cello driven Rocky Mountain acoustic groove-rock band with roots in a diverse range of musical styles.  They’re also a bit political – or at least socially conscious.

CP S13 EP07 2019

Monday Feb 11, 2019 – NEW EMAIL ADDRESS = coloradoplaylist@gmail.com

Happy Monday. Well, I was hoping that Colorado would  represent in the 61st Annual Grammy Awards yesterday.  Ron Miles and Tia Fuller were up in the jazz category, and the Wood Brothers were nominated in the Americana category.  None took home the trophy.  However, Denver native Matt Pike won a Grammy as part of the metal band High On Fire.  They won for best metal performance.  Congrats Matt!!

It’s been another week of more new releases rolling in than I can get to in any given week.  Someone asked me the other day, “why not?”  It’s pretty simple really: time.  I can get 12, maybe 13 songs into an hour. I allow three slots per hour for brand new (D), (N) or (P) releases along with one or two current and previously played tracks (C).  Add in a couple of recurrent (R) “hits” and a handful of older back catalog titles (G) from the past sixty years and you have an idea of how the show is constructed each week.

Factor in a catalog of over 5000 song titles going back to the late 50s.  So, really, only the “best” titles get in .. which leads me to the MMMM.  I got to new music this episode from Ryan Dart, Brothers Keeper Don Chicharron, Bonnie and The Clydes, Corsicana and Thom Chacon.

Still in the queue for upcoming shows, new releases from SUCH, the Mossgatherers, Lucy Daydream, Hunter James and the Dirty Dollars, Eminence Ensemble, Dearling and several others.

Please do vote each week to let me know which tracks you think I should keep for future airplay.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

Whitewater Ramble may be becoming one of the most enigmatic “grass” bands in the state.  Never one to shy away from ingesting a diverse pallet of stylistic influences, Patrick Sites and company fully embrace a deep southern country-rock blues vibe with a potent socially conscious and politically astute message in their latest video.

MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEETING

Don’t forget to let me know if there’s something I should be playing on the show.  I scour Spotify, YouTube, Soundcloud and Bandcamp to find you the freshest new music from around the state – hope you’ll help out by voting to KEEP or DELETE the new music shares in the MMMM each week.

CP S13 EP06 2019

Monday Feb 4, 2019 – Wendy Woo has a new album coming out.  Normally, that’s no big deal, right?  Wendy has put out a number of records in her award winning career to date.  But, in this case it’s a solo release – the first one since Angels Laughing in 2005.  It also carries a message.  I debuted the first single in this week’s show and it’s the video pick of the week.  If the single is any indication, this could be among the best of what Wendy has put out in her career.

Also in this week’s MMMM = Foxfeather, Anthony Ruptak, and Lucy Daydream.  Coming soon – new music from Thom Chacon, Ryan Dart, Brothers Keeper and more.

VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK

The Immigrant is Westword Music Hall of Fame winner Wendy Woo’s first solo acoustic album since 2005.  While I can only imagine what the album will be about based on the title, The Weather gives us a clue.  It also stands up as among the best things that Wendy has done in her career.
